This month, we celebrated a decade with CEO Nancy McKenney at the helm of Marin Humane!
Nancy has devoted her life to animals and the people who love them, working in animal welfare for the past 39 years. Before accepting the position at Marin Humane, Nancy worked her tail off as CEO of Seattle Humane for 19 years, executive director for the Petfinder.com Foundation, interim manager for King County Animal Care and Control, and as a consultant.
Having held numerous positions on several national, statewide, and local boards and committees over the years, Nancy currently serves on two boards. She is the current Chair of the Board of CVNL (Center for Volunteers and Nonprofit Leadership) and is a board member of Cal Animals, the state association of animal shelters. She also chairs the CAWA (Certified Animal Welfare Administrators) Test Development Committee and is past president of the boards of the Washington State Federation of Animal Care & Control Agencies, the Society of Animal Welfare Administrators (SAWA), and Elder and Adult Day Care Services.
Nancy earned her undergraduate degree from Brown University and a master’s degree in Not-for-Profit Leadership from Seattle University.
During her tenure at Marin Humane, Nancy has led the team in developing and adopting new ways to house and care for animals, exponentially increased our services for struggling pet parents, overseen our response to disasters, taken an active role in legislation, and ensured fiscal responsibility for this organization and so much more!
Congratulations, Nancy and here’s to many more decades making lives happy!
P.S. Nancy and her husband Jim currently share their home with Fiona, an adopted feline, and Marin Humane alum Brody, a Lab-Poodle mix. They’ve always had shelter pets as family members, despite the fact that Jim is allergic to animals.
