Greetings Volunteers,

Are you looking for a way to get back to volunteering as we approach the one year anniversary of closing our doors? Well, we have a couple of opportunities that would be of huge help to the staff: Dog Training Assistant and Laundry volunteer.

  • Our Dog Training Assistants (DTAs) assist trainers in different levels of dog training classes to help guardians and their pets become better companions for one another; click on the Dog Training Assistant Job Description for more details. DTAs are needed almost every day, so there’s lots of flexibility!
  • Laundry volunteers — while this may not sound like the most glamorous job, you get to be outside while folding warm towels & blankets, you get to enjoy Fred’s company (our “feral” cat who calls Marin Humane home for the past five years), and you’ll receive so much gratitude from the animal care staff :). We need laundry volunteers Sunday, Monday and Tuesday afternoons.
  • If you’re interested in learning more about either volunteer job, please email

Shelter update: We currently have 100 animals in our care: 36 animals in foster and 64 in the shelter. The shelter residents include: 23 dogs, 4 puppies, 23 cats, 2 kittens, 5 parrots, 1 pigeon, 4 guinea pigs, and 2 hamsters. Since March 16th, we have done 1,736 adoptions!

Adoptions update: Congratulations to all the happy adopters from the past week. Thank you for giving these animals loving homes. Check out all the cuties that went home with this adoption slideshow.

Happy ending: “I just wanted to share a picture of Zander and how he’s doing. We adopted him back in December 2020. He is vocalizing and gets extremely excited when he hears a bag or the fridge opening. He was so quiet for the first few weeks that when he finally did squeal it was so surprising! He is actually a VERY loud piggy, which absolutely makes my heart melt.  He is coming out more even when we are near his cage, and he is learning how to beg. We absolutely love him! Thank you so much for allowing his adoption. Thank you again for this little love bug.”

Tails of Marin: It’s baby bird season, help keep them safe! In this week’s Tails of Marin we share information about baby birds and WildCare’s new “Respect the Nest” campaign.

VCA Animal Hospital discount card: VCA Animal Hospitals has generously offered their VIP Pet Perks discount card to Marin Humane staff and volunteers. The discount card includes a free first exam plus 20% off veterinary services each visit. (Please see card for details, and call your VCA Animal Hospital to confirm their participation). If you’d like a VCA Animal Hospital discount card, please let me know at, and I’ll pop one in the mail to you.

Behavior & Training blog: We hope you enjoy this week’s B&T blog post, Labrador Tales, from volunteer Pam Koppe.

Be well,

Anne and Candace
