Hello Volunteers,

This post gives us another chance to say, Happy Volunteer Appreciation Week! This special week is an opportunity to recognize the impact of volunteer service and the power of volunteers to tackle some of the greatest challenges facing communities. Volunteers are the lifeblood of many nonprofit organizations, including Marin Humane. Over 800 dedicated people donate their time, energy, creativity and skills to ensure Marin Humane can achieve its mission on behalf of animals and the people who love them! Thank you for transforming lives ❤ !

Shelter update: We currently have 258 animals in our collective care. 110 are at our Novato campus, including 31 dogs, 1 puppy, 49 cats, 10 kittens, 6 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 2 rodents, 5 reptiles, 1 bird, and 3 fowl. 14 animals are in our Oakland office; 8 are at Kitty Corner and the Woodlands stores; and 126 are in foster homes.

Adoption update: Today wouldn’t be complete without the adoption slideshow! 💘 Join me in celebrating the animals who were adopted last week! Cheers to forever homes! 🥂🎉💓🎉 And here’s the Adoption Report, too!

Tails of Marin: Naturally, this week’s Tails of Marin celebrates YOU, our fabulous volunteers! Enjoy –  “Volunteers are the lifeblood of Marin Humane.”

Animal Services Officer Appreciation Week! Last week was Animal Services Officer Appreciation Week! We’re so proud of our incredible Animal Services team! Whether they’re: 🐐 lassoing goats on a roof (yes, for real!)  🔥 rescuing beloved cats from burned buildings  🦌 pulling fawns from ditches 🦆 reuniting ducklings with their mother  ⚠️ stepping up to support the county during emergencies  💓 trapping lost pets and bringing them to safety  🫶 providing support to unhoused folks and their animals  …or doing any of the thousands of other things they do every day, our ASOs are our heroes! Please join me in saying thank you to our officers! 🙌.

Wine donations needed:  Woofstock is just a few short weeks away and one of the big fundraisers at the event is the Dog Collar Wine Toss game. To facilitate this event, our Special Events Manager Molly Foley is seeking donations of all varietals of wine, anything priced $5 and over, keeping in mind that guests are paying $10 to participate. Bottles can be brought to her desk in the MarCom Office or the Development Office, both in the Whittell building. Thank you in advance for your donations!

Pet portraits! We’re excited to share a special opportunity to be part of a meaningful collaboration with Cedars, a nonprofit organization that supports individuals with developmental disabilities. For the fifth year, Cedars will host Pet Parade, a unique art exhibition at their gallery in San Anselmo—featuring animals from Marin Humane staff, volunteers, and adopters! Cedars clients will choose pets to paint, and their artwork will be beautifully displayed in the gallery. The opening night celebration will take place on Friday, September 11. If your pet is selected as a subject, you’ll have the exclusive opportunity to purchase the artwork before it is displayed publicly. After the exhibition concludes, the piece will be yours to take home—a one-of-a-kind tribute to your pet. Here’s all the info you may need: Cedars Pet Portraits Information. This is a wonderful way to support both Cedars and Marin Humane while celebrating the animals we all love. Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions! For more information about the program, you can check out this article.

Woofstock: Still interested in volunteering at Woofstock? There are a few available shifts after the event. If you’re interested let me know as soon as possible! And if you volunteer, you get in for free and can enjoy all the festivities :).

Petaluma shelter update: As mentioned in a previous post, Marin Humane is temporarily providing animal services for the city of Petaluma until a new service provider is secured. This includes managing the shelter at 840 Hopper Street, Petaluma and providing field services for urgent animal-related needs. Marin Humane will be caring for animals at the Petaluma shelter while the best options for each are explored. This includes adoption, transfer to trusted shelters and rescues, veterinary care, and, in the case of stray animals, returns to owners, if possible. If you’d like to get the latest updates, scroll t the bottom of this page.

Have a wonderful week!
