Hello Volunteers,
Calling all bakers! At the Bay Area Pignic, Saturday, August 29th, families come from around the Bay Area for guinea pig wellness checks, costume contest, veggie eating contest, general socializing with other guinea pig lovers, and more. We also have a bake sale! Hence this call for bakers! We’re hoping you might be interested in baking something for the Pignic bake sale! Ideally, baked goods would be single packaged as they’ll be sold for $2-3 each (so think big cookies, bars, or cupcakes :). Also, preferably shelf-stable items. And if you can bake something vegan, that would be swell, too! Please let me know what you’ll be baking, and I’ll coordinate dropping-off your baked goods either Friday, the 28th or at the event on Saturday, the 29th. Thanks so much for your consideration!!

Hopalong happenings! No doubt Huskies have long histories with people and being part of a pack. Ella, the seven-month-old Husky puppy who is available for adoption, had been in her foster home for less than two weeks before she already proved how in tune she was with her foster pack. In fact, Ella already has one life saved on her accomplishment list! Karen, Ella’s foster mom, shared that Ella was introduced to her own family dogs and quickly blended in. Within that first week, Ella was napping and playing with the other resident pups. She just meshed well and it was apparent Ella was a smart cookie. One day soon after, Ella kept walking back and forth nudging Karen’s husband Walt trying to get his attention. At that point, Karen and Walt realized Ella was trying to make them aware that their senior dog, Asha, was starting to have a seizure. Asha was promptly tended to, and she is currently stable. What a good girl, Ella! Here is Ella’s profile for any Husky lovers looking to add this amazing girl to their pack … er, family, she’s a keeper!
Volunteer High Five to Linda Futrell & Chris Jones! “We’d like to give a BIG High Five to Linda Futrell and Chris Jones for their tremendous efforts to help a fellow shelter in need. Linda and Chris drove one of our vans from Marin Humane to the Petaluma Animal Shelter, loaded up TONS (almost literally!) of pet food and cleaning supplies, then drove to the Clearlake Animal Shelter, unloaded said tons of pet food and supplies, then returned to Marin Humane. All told, a 6 hour journey! Linda and Chris are some of our regular animal transporters, but this outing required a lot more lifting, carrying, and loading of heavy items. Linda and Chris also volunteer in our veterinary clinic, at events, and Linda is a foster screener. We want to extend our huge appreciation to this dynamic duo for going above and beyond to help our colleagues to the north. And we thank them for ALL they do for Marin Humane!” ~ Lauren Cole, Animal Care Coordinator
Happy ending! Scout, an Ocicat with asthma, was adopted last January. Her adopters were kind enough to send us a recent update: “Just to update you, Scout is living large, right now sunbathing in our garden window, sleek and healthy. We have her asthma very well controlled, and a diet she loves and is good on her sensitive stomach. She knows she is safe, loved, well fed, well cared for medically, and humans well trained to pat her and play with her on demand. Which is often! Sweetest cat we have ever had.”
Tails of Marin: Today in the U.S., rabies in dogs is very unusual, representing just 1% of all rabid animals reported every year. The number of human deaths in the U.S. from the virus averages between one and three annually. And there’s a simple reason for that: vaccinations. Learn more in this week’s Tails of Marin, “Help protect pets, people from rabies.”
Congratulations Annette! Annette Thomason is Marin Humane’s Behavior & Training Agility Program Supervisor and instructor extraordinaire.
