Greetings Volunteers,
How about a short & sweet blog post today!
Shelter update: We currently have 322 animals in our collective care. 245 are at Marin Humane: 92 animals in foster and 153 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 25 dogs, 5 puppies, 53 cats, 53 kittens, 7 rabbits, 4 guinea pigs, 3 reptiles, and 3 birds. 77 animals are with Hopalong: 16 animals are in the Oakland office and 61 cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies are in foster or offsite adoption sites!
Adoptions update: Happy Hump Day! We’re celebrating last week’s adoptions and gearing up for a new week of matchmaking! Check out the happy families! For those who want more details on who was adopted, here’s the Adoption Report!
Hopalong happenings! The Hopalong Foster Program brought 18 puppies and kittens to the Lucasfilm campus in San Francisco last Thursday, August 15th. We were thrilled to have our highest attendance rate ever for this event, with 147 Lucasfilm employees attending in shifts throughout the two-hour event. They were heard saying things like “this is the best day ever!” and “I’m so happy I could cry!,” so it’s safe to say we left quite the positive impression! Though it was not an adoption event, a few special connections were formed, and 4 kittens wound up finding homes! For those who weren’t in the position to adopt at this time, we were able to share other ways they could get involved with us and the animals, including volunteering and fostering. Speaking of volunteers and fosters – we are so grateful to the incredible volunteers and fosters who made this event possible! Thank you, Matthew, Janet, Mardi, Amy, Rebecca, Carol, Krystyna, Jo Anne, Jessica, Alice, and Sandra. We hope you had just as much fun as we did!

*Register for one or all on our website here!
San Quentin Pen Pals update: It’s all fun and games until someone attempts a jailbreak! Each Saturday, we share stories from our Pen Pals program at San Quentin Rehabilitation Center, which matches specially-selected inmates who work in the center’s firehouse with shelter dogs in need of a little extra TLC. Every now and then, a dog joins the program who figures out how to open the door to their room – like that velociraptor scene in Jurassic Park but a whole lot cuter. Then it turns into a game of chase in the yard until the inmates can wrangle the adorable offender. On this day, we were so glad our volunteer photographer was around to capture the look of pure joy, followed by the sheepish trip back. Learn more about our amazing Pen Pals program here.
Tails of Marin: Many people are unaware that dogs are required by law to be licensed. But it’s more than just a legal obligation; it plays a crucial role in community health and safety, animal welfare, and responsible pet ownership. Recently, Marin Humane, which handles dog licensing in Marin, launched an easy-to-use platform called DocuPet for it. Here’s “Why it’s so important to license your dog.”
Hope to see you at the Pignic on Saturday! Have a wonderful week!
Candace
