Hello Volunteers,
Tails by Twilight 2026 is less than a month away! Do you have your tickets yet? If you’ve been on the fence, here’s a look back at last year’s magic! We’re welcoming animal advocates to our campus on Saturday, September 19, for an evening of special stories, live jazz, delicious eats, craft cocktails, adorable dogs, and an exciting auction! Support the shelter while having fun – what could be better? Thank you to Brayton Purcell LLP for being their generosity as our presenting sponsor for this enchanting evening! Get tickets, tables, or just more details here.
Shelter update: We currently have 305 animals in our collective care. 139 are at our Novato campus, including 27 dogs, 9 puppies, 48 cats, 33 kittens, 4 rabbits, 13 guinea pigs, 1 rodent, 2 birds, and 2 fowl. 21 animals are in our Oakland office; 10 are at Kitty Corner and the Woodlands stores; and 135 are in foster homes.
Adoption update: There’s nothing better than a long adoption slideshow! Thanks to Clear the Shelters, we had an extra busy weekend of adoptions, so we have a LOT to celebrate today! Thank you to everyone who visited us and decided to adopt, not shop – and thank you to NBCUniversal, NBC Bay Area, and Hill’s Pet Nutrition for supporting Clear the Shelters!🥰 Hope you enjoy this week’s Adoption Report :).
Hopalong happenings! We all know cats are accustomed to people coming to them while they get their beauty naps snoozing in the sun. This kitten season, some of the Hopalong kitties are flipping the script and going on the road to find their forever homes! For the summer, we’ve had a double feature at our Pet Food Express Alameda mobile adoption events, sending pups and kittens looking for their forever homes. Back in the day, this location, not too far from the Hopalong office, was one of our more popular spots for East Bay adoptions. Since 2020, adoption events at PFE Alameda have been on hiatus. Now, we could use some momentum to spread the word with only two kitten adoptions over three events so far. We plan to have more kittens (and pups) there on Saturday, September 19th event; if you could help us spread the word, that would be great! A huge shout out to the PFE Alameda crew for accommodating us and our inaugural cat mobile event volunteers, Rikki, Liz, Richard, Mae, Tina and James!
Speaking of kittens on the road, this coming Saturday, August 29th, the Marin Humane RV, full of kittens, will make a trek to the East Bay for Berkeley Humane’s annual Bark Around the Block. This event has been a tradition for years and many of our kitties have found great homes. If you attend Bark Around the Block , come find us! Happy trails to the kitties that traveled to find their new families!
Foster tale: If you’ve ever considered fostering, let us help you tip the scale! Check out this incredibly sweet, wonderfully written article in the Pacific Sun about what it was like to foster a dog for Marin Humane: “I Love Lucy: Curing My Commitment Issues.” We soooooo appreciate all our foster families! Let me know if you’d like to join the corps of fosters :).
Tails of Marin:
Don’t forget, The Cutest Event on Earth (aka the Pignic) is happening this Saturday, August 29 at our Novato campus! To get in the spirit, here’s this week’s Tails of Marin, “Bay Area Pignic – A celebration of guinea pigs.”
