Greetings Volunteers,

Huge thanks to all of you who participated in Giving Tuesday! We fulfilled the match (a very generous matching gift of $37,500 was offered from Mark M. Glickman and The Joe Willie Project) and the cat category raised the most funds! Yay feline fanatics (and dog, rabbit, guinea pig, chicken, and any animal fanatics!).

Shelter update: We currently have 260 animals in our collective care. 123 are at our Novato campus, including 23 dogs, 3 puppies, 53 cats, 12 kittens, 12 rabbits, 5 guinea pigs, 9 rodents, 4 reptiles, and 2 fowl. Ten animals are in our Oakland office; 20 are at Kitty Corner and the Woodlands stores; and 107 are in foster homes! And last but not least, 58 animals were adopted in the past week!

Adoption update: There’s nothing like a Wednesday, “hump day,” and adoption slideshow day! Congratulations and thank you to all of last week’s wonderful adopters! ❤ #adoptdontshop! And if you’d like more details on who went home, here’s the Adoption Report!

Hopalong happenings: It was a pleasure to see many of you at the Hopalong Holiday Happy Hour last week. We discovered that our volunteers are amazing chefs: you all brought delicious treats like sushi roll ups, homemade cookies, and lemon bars. It was so much fun to see volunteers meeting and mingling by playing conversation bingo. Through that, we learned that many of the staff are left-handed and every person named Suzanne at the event had done DNA testing on a pet! To end the night, five volunteers won prizes like a tea set with animal mugs or a gift basket of dog related supplies. Thank you all for coming and kicking off the holiday season with us!

Looking for a foster for a special pet: Joe Joe the rat is not just any domestic rat, he’s a super sweet social rat! We’re looking for a foster for Joe Joe for about two weeks. Joe Joe loves to hang out, sit on shoulders, and enjoy some lovin’. If you’ve never had a rat, he’s a great “starter” and a fun family foster opportunity! As always with our fosters, we’ll provide everything you need. You just provide the loving home :). If interested in learning more about Joe Joe and would consider fostering him for even a week, please contact foster care coordinator Suzanne Gollin at sgollin@marinhumane.org. Thank you for considering him.

Spay & neuter clinic: We were honored to participate in this past weekend’s special event, “Champions for Pet Health: Communities Partnering for Wellness and Spay & Neuter.” This Bay Area-wide event brought together nine animal welfare organizations to provide free spay/neuter surgeries and vaccines to more than 600 animals across five counties. We’re grateful to our clinic team for all their extra hard work over the weekend to support this important mission! This weekend wouldn’t have been possible without the extremely generous support of BISSELL Pet Foundation, Maddie’s Fund, La Russa Rescue Champions, and the Dave & Cheryl Duffield Foundation. Thank you for making this event a reality and having such an impact across the whole Bay Area!

If you need financial support to get your pet spayed or neutered (or for other veterinary care), check out our Pet Safety Net program for Marin residents. If you need vaccines for your dogs or cats, join us at our next Free Community Clinic for Pets on January 31 in Novato.

Fee-Waived adoptions! Hill’s Pet Nutrition is having a party – and we’re all invited! Celebrate 16 million adoptions through their Food, Shelter, & Love program with fee-waived adoptions on all our animals, all week long, at all our locations! It’s the best party favor we can think of. 🥳! Spread the news, spread the love!

Honor your love of animals! With a bequest to Marin Humane. Do you sometimes wish you were able to donate more generously to causes you care about? While you naturally want to ensure your loved ones are cared for, allocating even a small percent of your total estate to Marin Humane can result in a bigger donation than can be managed in a lifetime! And a benefit of a charitable bequest to Marin Humane is that it costs you nothing now, but enables you to support our transformative work, long after you’re gone. If you’d like to give Marin County’s animals a voice for generations to come by including us in your estate plan, please visit here or contact Nan Zimmerman at 415-506-6233 or at nzimmerman@marinhumane.org

Tails of Marin: We have so many cute critters at Marin Humane, and guinea pigs are certainly no exception. Guinea pigs make great pets, especially for kids. Less fragile than rabbits and less skittish than hamsters or gerbils, guinea pigs tenderly coo, can be swaddled in baby blankets and are generally adored by their guardians. Check out this week’s Tails of Marin, “9 reasons why guinea pigs make great pets.”
