Greetings Volunteers,
Though yesterday was Giving Tuesday, it’s not too late to support our cats, dogs, or small pets! We know there are so many charitable organizations vying for your financial donations. Please know how much we appreciate your support through volunteering and fostering – it means the world to us :). And … if you feel so inclined to make a donation in support of the shelter canines, felines, or small companion animals, we absolutely appreciate that support, too … please click here. On this page, you’ll also find three heartwarming videos. Enjoy, and thank you!!
Shelter update: We currently have 287 animals in our collective care. 142 are at our Novato campus, including 31 dogs, 6 puppies, 53 cats, 26 kittens, 10 rabbits, 6 guinea pigs, 8 rodents, and 2 reptiles. Four animals are in our Oakland office; 14 are at Kitty Corner and the Woodlands stores; and 127 are in foster homes! And last but not least, 43 animals were adopted in the past week!
Adoption update: Wednesdays are the best days! Check out last week’s wonderful adoptions! Hooray! #adoptdontshop! And here’s the Adoption Report for the full scoop on who went home!
Hopalong happenings: This week, Hopalong would like to shout out Dan for being an outstanding volunteer! By Friday, our staff are tired, many animals have left to get adopted, and the office could use some cleaning. Dan’s Friday afternoon shift comes at the perfect time. With his help, we are able to go into the weekend feeling calm and get the office under control. Lately Dan has also been stepping up to help drive animals to surgery appointments as a pet chauffeur. We appreciate Dan for always being willing to lend a helping hand and his calm, hardworking presence. Thank you, Dan!
Vote for Marin Humane! Please vote for Marin Humane at Vintage Oaks’ 12 Days of Holiday Giving! Vintage Oaks is donating to 3 Novato charities this holiday season. By voting for Marin Humane on the Vintage Oaks Instagram page, you can help us receive a “Spread The Joy” donation. By voting, you also get a chance to win a gift every day! Here’s what to do: 1) Follow Vintage Oaks on Instagram at @shopsatvintageoaks for a chance to win one of the 12 Days of Holiday Gifts, between December 1 – 12, compliments of Vintage Oaks; 2) Like their post; 3) Vote for Marin Humane (one entry per day)! Easy peasy!
Student Service Clubs: Do you have an animal loving child in your family? Well, Marin Humane’s Student Service Clubs may be the best way for them to get involved. Students in grades 5-12 are invited to participate in Student Service Clubs, where the focus is on building compassion, learning about animals, caring for the community, and having fun! Each program features engaging, age-appropriate lessons and activities that encourage young people to see themselves as compassionate members of their community. Our Student Service Club applications are now open! Check out the clubs for each age group and apply here and apply today (applications close December 9)!
Tails of Marin: Pets, especially dogs, are extremely popular in Marin. Unfortunately, this abundance of dogs also means that occasionally they get into altercations — sometimes quite serious — with each other. If you’re a dog guardian, you’ll want to read this week’s Tails of Marin, “How to break up canine confrontations.”
Nugget Markets scrip card: Marin Humane has been a beneficiary of Nugget Market’s scrip program for several years, and with Thanksgiving and the December holidays soon upon us, what a perfect time of year to remind everyone about this program! Through Nugget’s community scrip program, Marin Humane receives between 1-4% of revenues based on total monthly purchases by shoppers who have registered and chosen Marin Humane as their preferred charity. If you’re already participating in the scrip program, thank you! Consider this a friendly reminder to keep using your scrip card when you shop! For those of you who are interested in participating, it takes only a few minutes to register, and it works like a grocery store membership card, but with proceeds going to us. If you would like to participate or have lost your scrip card and need a replacement, please let me know. To create an account and register your card, go to scrip.nuggetmarket.com and click on “Participants Sign Up.” (If you’re receiving a replacement card, make sure to add your new card to your scrip account). Once registered, present your Nugget scrip card as the cashier rings up your purchases and that’s it! The card can be used at any Nugget market – there are three located in Marin County: Novato (just down the road from us), Corte Madera, and Tiburon – as well as at Sonoma Market in Sonoma.
