Greetings Volunteers,
You’re receiving this post a day early as I’m heading to L.A. to join a few other Marin Humane staff to help at Pasadena Humane for the week. We’ll be supporting the overwhelmed and exhausted staff there get some much-needed respite. As you may have heard or read, late Sunday night, we welcomed 46 animals from municipal shelters around L.A. county. These 2 dogs and 44 smalls (guinea pigs, hamsters, and rabbits) were already in the shelter system before the fires started, and moving them to Marin gives the L.A. shelters more space to house stray and evacuated animals from the fires. It also relieves the pressure on shelter staff. We’re eager to give these animals fresh starts here in Marin County! Some of these cuties are already available for adoption! (The two dogs are not up for adoption yet.) See the below Volunteer High for Linda and Chris, our volunteer animal transporters!!
Shelter update: We currently have 261 animals in our collective care. 222 are at Marin Humane: 65 animals in foster and 196 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 25 dogs, 4 puppies, 42 cats, 11 kittens, 13 rabbits, 25 guinea pigs, 20 rodents, 6 reptiles, 6 birds, and 5 fowl. 39 animals are with the Hopalong Foster Program: 5 animals are in the Oakland office and 34 are in foster or offsite adoption sites!
Adoption update: To enjoy the rest of your week, here’s the adoption slideshow! Thank you so much to the adopters who turned out last week and gave our animals forever homes! Here’s the Adoption Report if you’d like more details.
Hopalong happenings! We had a super successful weekend mobile adoption event, full of adoptions! Almost all of our dogs found their new homes on Saturday! Four dogs were adopted at our mobile event at the Greenbrae Woodlands Pet Food & Treats store and two were adopted at our Oakland facility. Pictured here are Fozzie, Coconut, Noel, Josie, Rosie, and Posie with their brand-new families! We’re so excited for them to start their new lives and so grateful for our amazing volunteers who give their time at these events to help these pups find their forever homes.
Tails of Marin: This week’s Tails of Marin is, of course, about the fires in L.A.: “Helping animals in the wake of disasters.”

Volunteer High Five to Linda Futrell and Chris Jones! HUGE thanks to our amazing transport volunteers, Linda and Chris, who drove to Los Angeles on Saturday, spent the night, then picked up 46 animals from municipal shelters around LA county. They transported 2 dogs and 44 small companion animals like guinea pigs, rabbits, and hamsters, all of whom were available for adoption before the fires hit and are not the pets of evacuees. These special little buddies are so often overlooked, and we’re lucky to be uniquely equipped to accept small animals here at Marin Humane, due to our shelter set-up and staff expertise. We’re so grateful to Linda and Chris for stepping up and allowing us to help LA shelters at a moment’s notice. We hope they are resting this week and don’t plan on getting in a car for a few days, ha! Thank you Linda and Chris!!
