Greetings Volunteers,

Make this Valentine’s Day the HOPpiest one yet! Adopt someBUNNY to be your valentine! We have lots of sweet, adorable rabbits ready for their forever homes, so we’re waiving their adoption fees through the end of February. Meet them all on our “small and special” section of the adoption page.

Shelter update: We currently have 183 animals in our collective care. 134 are at Marin Humane: 41 animals in foster and 93 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 15 dogs, 1 puppy, 42 cats, 12 kittens, 5 rabbits, 5 guinea pigs, 4 reptiles, and 9 birds. 49 animals are with Hopalong: 6 animals are in the Oakland office and 44 cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies are in foster or offsite adoption sites!

Adoptions update: Happy Wednesday! We hope you’re enjoying this little break in the rain! 🌧 Thankfully, the wet weather didn’t stop us from having a fabulous weekend full of adoptions, so we have a chock-full slideshow for you. For more details on last week’s adoptions, here’s the Adoption Report.

Hopalong happenings! It’s amazing to see how quickly puppies grow! Staff and volunteers have been enjoying the company of AJ and Meadow at the Hopalong office lately, as they’ve been coming to work with their foster mom (who is one of our staff members). They’ve come a long way since their first photos, growing into playful pups who just made it into the double digits (over 10 lbs each) this week. It sure seems like they’ll be some beautiful big dogs! They need a few more weeks in foster, and then they’ll be ready to get spayed and neutered and go up for adoption!

Tails of Marin: What is your cat saying? “You rely on your ability to accurately read other humans’ nonverbal signals to know how they’re feeling, like whether you should shake their hand versus give them a hug or whether you’ve upset them or made them happy. You rely on your ability to understand nonverbal cues to infer all manner of human thinking, feeling, intention, and likely future behavior. You cannot, unfortunately, apply what you know about human nonverbal communication to your beloved feline companion. But there’s an equally powerful nonverbal cat language you can easily learn.” Continue the Tails of Marin article, “Understanding what your cat’s trying to say.”

Happy ending! “Hi there! Just wanted to give you all an Ozzy update! Today is the 2nd anniversary of his adoption (01/23/22). He’s been to so many places and been on so many vacations with us, it’s hard to get a snapshot of it all. He has been such a great doggie brother to our other German Shepherd mix Kayla. I was reminded today when I took Ozzy for a bath that the two hate to be separated! Kayla cried and cried until Ozzy was back! Ozzy is goofy, smart, loving, and as loyal as a dog could ever be. He’s given us full hearts these last 2 years and we’re so lucky to have him! Thanks for all you do to give these pups, and all the animals, a second chance to find their forever families! We are beyond grateful!”

Partner with Marin Humane: It’s tempting to think there’s little you can do about the future, but nothing could be further from the truth. There’s a way you can partner with Marin Humane that costs you nothing now and ensures your values and vision for the future endure. When you remember Marin Humane with a bequest you make a personal statement about who you are, what you care about, and what kind of world you want to leave behind. Year after year, bequests enable Marin Humane to offer transformative services and programs that make our tagline “Lives made happy” a reality for thousands. If you’d like to explore creating your legacy by making a bequest to Marin Humane, please get more info here or contact Nan Zimmerman at 415-506-6233 or at
