Greetings Volunteers,
We held the first free community clinic of 2025 on Saturday! We provided brief exams, rabies/DA2PP/FVRCP, microchips, and other supplies to 103 guardians and their 141 pets (59 cats and 82 dogs)! This was our 15th clinic since launching this outreach service in December 2020! We have now helped nearly 1,100 people with over 1,500 pets.
We couldn’t have provided this valuable service on Saturday without the following veterinarians who donated their time at Saturday’s clinic: Dr. Erin Bennett and Dr. Monica Ortiz (San Marin Animal Hospital), Dr. Kat Danielson (Country Vet), and Dr. Nicole Captanian (Fairfax Vet). In addition, we had an awesome corps of volunteers: Caia Nakleh, Cecilia Murguria, Chelsea Myers, Corina Marx, Daniella Ingargiola, Dawn Bedell, Katie Rogers, Lisa Torres, Liz Vial, Mary Fehlman, Martin Bergamaschi, Melanie Gilbert, Melita Figueroa, Peg Sipos, and Zoe Laska … and many staff! HUGE KUDOS to this awesome team!
Shelter update: We currently have 226 animals in our collective care. 189 are at Marin Humane: 78 animals in foster and 111 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 29 dogs, 5 puppies, 37 cats, 9 kittens, 13 rabbits, 4 guinea pigs, 4 rodents, 2 reptile, 3 birds, and 6 fowl. 37 animals are with the Hopalong Foster Program: 13 animals are in the Oakland office and 24 are in foster or offsite adoption sites!
Adoption update: Happy day and hooray for last week’s adoptions! Thank you to all the adopters who gave these lucky furry (and scaly!) friends their forever homes. And of course, there are still lots more where these cuties came from!
Enjoy the adoption slideshow and check out the Adoption Report to see the names of all the pets who found their new homes last week!
Hopalong happenings: Happily furever after! Recently we had an unlikely duo of pups fostered together, terrier mix Cashew and shepherd Kanai. As so often happens, the two became fast friends and were regularly found cuddling together in their foster home. One of the veterinarians from Marin Humane, Dr. Karen, let us know she had a friend interested in adopting little Cashew and a meet and greet was arranged. When the potential adopter met Cashew they also met Kanai and quickly decided that they needed both dogs in their lives. Now these two lucky pups have an amazing new home and never have to be separated! We’re so excited for these new canine siblings and wish them the best in their new lives!
Volunteer opportunity: Looking for a way to volunteer from the comfort of your own home? Does your work schedule make it difficult to volunteer during traditional office hours? We have a role for you! We’re looking for additional volunteer foster screeners to help the Hopalong Foster Program. The role consists primarily of reviewing foster applications and speaking with potential fosters about their home environments and the expectations of the program. You would share the results of these conversations with the Hopalong Foster team. If this is a volunteer role you’d be interested in, please reach out to Meagan at mstangel@marinhumane.org for more information!
Tails of Marin: This week’s Tails of Marin is a good reminder that “Positive reinforcement training leads to better results, happier dogs.”
Summer camp registration next week! We’re looking forward to another great summer of camp at Marin Humane! Registration will open on Tuesday, February 4 at noon. This year, we’re using a new registration platform, Sawyer. To save you time on registration day, we recommend creating your Sawyer account now. Please contact education@marinhumane.org with questions.
Summer camp t-shirt contest: Calling Marin County students in Grades 1–8! We invite you to use your creativity to design our Summer Camp T-Shirt. For details on contest rules, click here.
Summer camp job opportunity: Do you, or someone you know, love working with kids, love sharing Marin Humane, and have their summer free?! Well, we’re accepting applications/resumes for a seasonal Summer Camp Instructor. See this for a complete job description. If interested in applying or know of anyone who might be interested, please click here.
Happy ending: In previous posts we wrote about Kirra’s happy ending. Well, last week, Kirra’s adopters came by the shelter. They brought a tin of cookies that they made, some photos, and a love note about Kirra and how lucky they are! The adopters think she is perfect, and they love her so! We, too, express our appreciation to all the Feline Intervention Team volunteers who spent countless hours with this sweet kitty :).
I will be on a sabbatical from February 3-10, so the Volunteer Blog will take a break next week as well!
Have a fantastic week!
Candace
