Greetings Volunteers,
It summertime and the temperatures are rising! No better time to send a wee reminder that the volunteer dress code remains in place regardless of the temperature: please wear long pants (no shorts or capris) and closed toed shoes, along with your volunteer t-shirt and badge. We’re trying to ensure your safety :). For any questions about the dress code, please refer to our Volunteer Handbook. Speaking of summertime, we will be closed on Friday, July 4th. Wishing you all a safe, happy holiday weekend!

Hopalong happenings: Need some kitty time? Come join our amazing team of cat care volunteers and make lives better for our cats and kittens! We could use your help in our Oakland location taking care of our fabulous felines making sure their kennels, condos, and cages are tidy. Photographed here is our fabulous cat care volunteer, Kyle, who comes weekly to help us with all kinds of duties and of course some kitty snuggling! If you’re interested in helping with cat care any week day, any time, at the Hopalong Foster Program office in Oakland, please email Katia at kkiefaber@marinhumane.org. The kitties would love having some extra TLC!
Volunteer High Five to Joy Dal Santo! “A big shout-out and our deepest gratitude to Joy! We want to extend our heartfelt thanks to Joy for her exceptional dedication to B&T’s nose work events. As a longtime DTA in our nose work classes, Joy didn’t hesitate when the opportunity arose to volunteer at our very first NACSW nose work trial in 2021. She eagerly stepped into the role of Trial Volunteer Coordinator and has truly been my go-to partner—always showing up with enthusiasm, reliability, and commitment. Together, we’ve welcomed over 600 dog-handler teams to compete in 16 trials, along with hundreds more participants in our Odor Recognition Tests and Sniff n Go events. Joy’s ability to rally a strong team of volunteers has been nothing short of remarkable. With her kind spirit, persuasive charm, and proactive approach, she makes everyone feel valued, motivated, and excited to be part of the team. Her support has been a cornerstone of our event success, and her kindness and leadership have left a lasting impact on our community. Thank you, Joy, for being such an essential part of our team. We are deeply grateful for everything you do!” ~ Carrie Alongi, Nose Work Events Coordinator
Tails of Marin: Even in Marin, where fireworks are illegal, you can already hear people setting them off ahead of the Fourth of July holiday. The sights — and especially the sounds — of Fourth of July celebrations can be terrifying to animals. Loud noises can scare pets, causing them to panic and even run away from home. In fact, animal shelters across the country report an increased number of lost pets after fireworks displays, and Marin County is no exception. Fortunately, there are steps you can take to ensure a fun and safe holiday for you and your furry family members. This week’s Tails of Marin, we address the timely topic of “Keeping your pets safe, happy during Fourth of July.” Have a great time this Fourth of July and keep your pets safe and sound!
Do you love “thrifting”? Use your retail experience for good! We’re looking for a few more volunteers to help out at our Thrift Shop in San Anselmo, which raises critical funds for our shelter clinic. We’re happy to provide on-the-job training. If you can dedicate 2-4 days a month to volunteer at this fun and fabulous shop, we’d love to chat with you! Contact me at calexander@marinhumane.org!
Do you have a plan for your pets? Have you ever considered what would happen to your pets if you were no longer able to care for them? Members of Marin Humane’s Legacy Society are eligible to enroll their pets in our Guardians Program, and should they become incapacitated or die during their pets’ lifetime, we will shelter and care for their beloved companions while we work to find them a new home based on information provided at the time of registration. And if pets need to be rehomed together, we’ll honor that wish! Planning for your cherished pets is an act of devotion and brings peace of mind. If you would like information about Marin Humane’s Legacy Society or Guardians Program, please visit this page or contact Nan Zimmerman at 415-506-6233 or at nzimmerman@marinhumane.org
Have a fabulous, fun, and safe holiday!
Candace
