Greetings Volunteers,
Happy National Mutt Day … or perhaps better said, Happy Mixed Breed Dog Day! Of course, all dogs are special, but today the spotlight is on the mixed breed dogs who sometimes get overlooked and brings attention to the many great mixed breed dogs in shelters in need of homes. Take a look at some of these cuties available for adoption.
Shelter update: We currently have 327 animals in our collective care. 245 are at Marin Humane: 94 animals in foster and 151 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 30 dogs, 3 puppies, 56 cats, 46 kittens, 3 rabbits, 5 guinea pigs, 3 reptiles, 4 birds, and 1 fowl. 82 animals are with Hopalong: 1 animal is in the Oakland office and 81 cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies are in foster or offsite adoption sites!
Adoptions update: It’s a happy, sunny Wednesday! Thank you to everyone who came out to adopt, not shop, last week! We’re in the last few hours of fee-waived adoptions for all our adult animals so it’s still a great time to adopt! Here’s the adoption slideshow to put a smile on your face and inspire you. For those who want more details, here’s the Adoption Report!
Hopalong happenings! We had a blast this past Saturday at our mobile adoption event at the Novato Woodlands Pet Food & Treats store! Not only did we have our usual amazing collection of adorable adoptable pups, fosters, and volunteers, but we also had some special guests. Some of our teammates from the Novato campus joined us on site with an RV full of kittens, and folks sure loved seeing all those cute kittens on display in the RV! It was the perfect backdrop for all our puppy adoption photos, too, as you can see here. We’re so grateful for all our adopters, whether they opted for kittens or puppies this weekend. And an extra big thanks to our adopters who had such a nice experience with their first Hopalong adoptee, that they decided to do it twice and came back to us when it was time to add another member to the family (both pups are pictured here in their first family photo together)!
Baby duckling rescue! In case you missed it, here’s another chance to get through your week with a “Squee!” and an “OMG!” because this is seriously cute! Thank you to our very own Officer Cimmiyotti for rescuing these ducklings in need, and thank you to The Dodo for sharing! ![]()
Three cheers for our Veterinary Assistants! Last week was Veterinary Assistant Week! Our veterinary assistants are such a crucial part of our team, doing so much for the animals. We only have two veterinarians here at Marin Humane, so the vet assistants act as their eyes and ears on the floor with our shelter animals, doing initial exams to determine if an animal needs a vet check, administering treatments and medications and monitoring progress, bathing and grooming animals, performing diagnostics, and soooo much more. We’d like to give a huge thank you to Barb, Linda, Lizzy and Stephanie for being there for our animals every single day! We couldn’t do it without you!
Volunteer High Five to Dog Pet Pals! “Three cheers to the intrepid Dog Pet Pals for walking the shelter dogs during the recent extreme heat wave. Yes, it was hot, hot, hot, but the dogs still needed a break from their cool kennels to sniff, roll in the grass, take a jaunt around the dog park, and get some TLC. And our Dog Pet Pals came in droves to get the shelter dogs out, and even stayed late to ensure all of the dogs on their “walk boards” were walked. These past few weeks, the DPPs were getting upwards of 30 dogs out each shift! We so appreciate the extra effort from volunteers especially when our kennels are full, full, full!” ~ With special appreciation from the Animal Care team
Tails of Marin: It’s kitten season! After reading this week’s Tails of Marin article, “Kitten season is busier than ever at Marin Humane!,” we hope you’re inspired to foster a kitten or kittens or mama cats or even an adult cat! (and if you secretly want to foster a dog, we need you, too!) Contact foster care coordinator Suzanne Gollin at sgollin@marinhumane.org.
Happy almost August!
Candace
