Hello Volunteers,

Have you always wanted to be in a parade?! Well, now’s your chance! Marin Humane will be participating in the Fourth of July Parade in Novato! We’re looking for  volunteers who would like to join Marin Humane staff and Board members as they walk the parade route in downtown Novato. It’ll be fun!! Bring your family! Here are some details: Timing: 8:30am staging in downtown Novato; 10:00am parade start; finished around noon. Length: The parade route is about 3/4 of a mile. Please let me know if you’d like to represent Marin Humane and join the parade!

Shelter update: We currently have 343 animals in our collective care. 141 are at our Novato campus, including 25 dogs, 52 cats, 46 kittens, 6 rabbits, 8 guinea pigs, 1 rodent, 1 reptile, and 2 birds. 12 animals are in our Oakland office; 13 are at Kitty Corner and the Woodlands stores; and 177 are in foster homes.

Adoption update:  Happy Wednesday! Whew, we had a busy weekend of adoptions, and yes, it was KITTEN CITY! Congratulations to all of the adopters who found new best friends last week! 🎉🎉🥰🥰 Thank you to everyone who turned out for California Adopt-a-Pet Day on Saturday! We’re thrilled to say that 39 animals found their forever homes: 2 cats, 5 dogs, 3 puppies, and 29 kittens! We’re grateful to the ASPCA, California Animal Welfare Association, and the San Francisco SPCA for making Adopt-a-Pet Day possible! We hope you enjoy this adoption slideshow and full Adoption Report, too!

Hopalong happenings: You may not have met our volunteer Suzanne, but if you’ve been to the Hopalong office, you’ve seen her little touches everywhere. Suzanne’s official volunteer position is a pet chauffeur to transport animals to pet stores to get adopted. However, she also creates and maintains our flower planters, washes the Hopalong van, clips out funny animal cartoons from magazines (look for these on the Volunteer Bulletin Board!), and donates animal-related supplies. We didn’t ask her to do any of these things – she took them upon herself out of kindness. As you can tell from all she does, she is a rock-star volunteer and she brings so much life to Hopalong. Suzanne, we’re so grateful for your support and the positive energy you bring! Thanks for all you do!

Pet Safety Net Pet Pantry: *THANK YOU to everyone who’s supported our pet food drive so far! Look at that progress! We could still use more dog food in particular (especially canned food), so if you’re looking for a simple way to make a big difference for animals, this is it!** Our Pet Safety Net program provides free pet food to hundreds of pet guardians struggling to make ends meet. Year after year, the need has remained heartbreakingly high, and we need pet food donations to keep pets with the families who love them. Click here to view the three easy ways to help! Thank you so much!!

Tails of Marin: In this week’s Tails of Marin, Lisa Bloch writes, “Many people are unaware that by law dogs are required to be licensed. But it’s more than just a legal obligation; it plays a crucial role in community health and safety, animal welfare and responsible pet guardianship.” Here’s “Why it’s important to license your dog.”

B&Tea Blog: We’re back from a bit of a hiatus with a new Behavior & Training blog. The B&Tea blog series features fun stories on training triumphs and foibles, cat and dog foster challenges and happy endings along with general musings on living life well with animals. Hope you enjoy the latest installment, The Dog’s Eye Roll, or Teamwork to the Top! And if agility sounds like fun, check out our offerings here.

Happy ending! “Thank you so much for leading me to Riley. She is amazingly perfect. Beyond being a serious cuddle bug with a never-ending motor, she seems like a perfect energy for our other pets. It has been completely drama- free so far. The adult cats can see her through the gate at my door and are not showing anything more than curiosity. The dogs, who can surely hear and smell her, are not showing any stress. It’s really blowing my mind. At my age, I’ve seen a lot of pet additions, and this feels special. She is also very well-adjusted and solid, pretty unflappable. Kudos to her foster. Thank you for an inspired match.”

Wishing you a wonderful week ahead!
