Greetings Volunteers,
Kittens, kittens, kittenzzzzzz! The season for adorable, fuzzy babies is officially upon us and we have oodles of kittens both in the shelter, in Woodlands Pet Food & Treats locations around Marin, and in foster homes. If you or your friends are looking for a pair of fun, check out this bonded pair of kittens, Alexandrite and Sapphire, pictured on the left side of the photo! But, if you’re over all that kitten energy and looking for a bonded pair of cats, meet Ciara and Mariah – The Golden Girls of the Cat World (pictured on the right)! You can get twice the love and twice the charm with Ciara and Mariah who are a bonded pair of 10-year-old ladies ready to bring warmth and joy into your home. Come celebrate Adopt a Shelter Cat month with us and adopt one of our fabulous felines!

Adoption update: It’s another beautiful Wednesday, which means another slideshow of beautiful new relationships! Thank you so much to all of the adopters for giving our wonderful animals the homes they so deserve. #adoptdontshop
Also enjoy the Adoption Report for extra good news! Featured in the photo to the left are Leo and Cleo. Their adopter emailed us an update already: “We picked up Leo and Cleo on Saturday-easiest drive from Auburn ever! No traffic. They are absolutely fabulous. They are very relaxed, play a lot, and they run to me when I walk in the room! Cleo has curled up to take an entire bath in my lap, and this morning Leo rolled on his back while I was petting him. It was a great experience. I appreciated all of the information and support I was given. It’s a great adoption system! We are so happy!! I already texted the foster to give her updates and some pix. Thank you so much for your help. We love them!”
Hopalong happenings: It’s kitten season at Hopalong, too! We have had lots of kittens coming and going and our volunteers have been amazing at helping us keep the kittens well socialized and their condos clean. Some of our cat care volunteers had the opportunity to hang out with these cuties (see picture) this past weekend. If you’re interested in helping with cat care any week day, any time, at the Hopalong Foster Program office in Oakland, please email Katia at kkiefaber@marinhumane.org. The kitties would love having some extra TLC!
Volunteer High Five to Community Clinic Volunteers! “We’d like to give a huge High Five to the volunteers who helped make our recent community clinic a big success! On May 31st, the Pet Safety Net coordinated a spay and neuter clinic for low-income Marin County residents at San Marin Animal Hospital. Dr. Erin Bennett, the owner of SMAH and one of our Board members, allowed us to use her hospital free of charge, and her associate, Dr. Monica Ortiz volunteered to do surgeries. Volunteers extraordinaire Georgia Couderc, Ron Coffer, and Karen Coyne were there to assist in the operating room. Volunteer Maya Ostrander also came for client check-in and check-out to translate for our Spanish-speaking clients. Eight cats and dogs were altered because of the generosity of these individuals! Thank you for sharing your Saturday with us to help more people and pets in our community! You ROCK!” ~ Shilo Landis, Community Engagement Coordinator
Tails of Marin: This week’s Tails of Marin article, states, “A crate can be a dog’s safe space where they can turn their brain off and simply relax. They don’t need to worry about barking at the mail carrier or following you to the bathroom — they’re off duty. When dogs jump up on people, it’s partially for affection and attention, and it’s partially an anxiety-based behavior. Check out the entire article,”The benefits of crate training your dog.”
Next community clinic: Our next FREE drop-in Community Clinic for low-income pet parents in Marin will be on Saturday, July 19, at St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Marin City. Bring your canine companion or feline friend to our mobile clinic at 101 Donahue St., Marin City, from 11:00am- 12:30pm to get: *Free vaccinations (DA2PP, FVRCP, rabies)! *Free microchipping! *Free mini-check-up by a veterinarian! *Free pet food and supplies! This is a FREE event to help low-income Marin County families struggling to meet their pet’s needs. Learn more about out Pet Safety Net program here.
Hope you have an amazing week!
