Greetings Volunteers,
Join companion animal advocates from Marin Humane and across the state for Animal Advocacy Day, a day of action at the California State Capitol in Sacramento. We warmly invite you to join us on April 29th to advocate for pets and their people and meet with legislators. This will be an energizing and impactful experience for everyone.
The day will begin at 9:00 AM at Westminster Church near the State Capitol, with great speakers and important directions for the day. When the program wraps, the group will walk to the Capitol to meet with legislators and their staff in the legislative office building to discuss the various animal bills that are working their way through the system. It is immensely helpful to have shelter professionals and volunteers attend these meetings to discuss the impacts these bills have on our work. If you’d like to join us, please register here (please select that you were invited by Marin Humane :). Carpools will be arranged from our main campus.

Adoption update: Hooray for Wednesday and the adoption slideshow! Congratulations to all of last week’s adopters! Enjoy the Adoption Report for more details!
Hopalong happenings: We had a great weekend event with lots of adoptions! Six dogs found their new homes on Saturday at our mobile event at the Greenbrae Woodlands Pet Food & Treats store. We’re so excited for Iris, Sienna, Milan, Sweet Pea, Cupid, and Portia. They’re all shown here with their brand-new families, and we wish them all the best in their new lives! We also want to say a huge THANK YOU to our amazing event coordinators and dog handlers! All the time and energy you spend weekend after weekend helping these pups is greatly appreciated!
Volunteer High Five to Gayle Gaston! “We’d like to give a B-I-G High Five to Gayle Gaston, Dog Pet Pal and videographer! This High Five is specifically for the training videos Gayle has been producing for the DPPs. Marin Humane is fortunate to benefit from the expertise of visiting dog trainer Sara Walchli. Sara comes to the shelter once a week to offer special dog training sessions with our Dog Pet Pal volunteers and our most challenging dogs. Gayle attends these training sessions and films Sara. Then, Gayle spends hours editing and producing excellent training videos, shared with the whole DPP team. These training videos are super valuable to the education of our DPP team, helping them help more dogs in our care, ultimately setting up these dogs for success and adoption! Thank you, Gayle, for sharing your excellent videography skills! You’re making a difference in the lives of our volunteers and shelter dogs!” ~ Jane Aten, Shelter Canine Behavior Coordinator
B&Tea blog: Feline Intervention Team volunteer Candace Key wrote a very moving and memorable B&Tea blog, “How a Sweet Little Dog Saved my Sister’s Life.” A must read.
Tails of Marin: In this week’s installment of Tails of Marin, Carina DeVera, Marin Humane staff and guinea pig aficionado, writes: “I’ve always had a special fondness for guinea pigs. Since childhood, these charming little animals have been my trusted companions, filling my days with their endearing antics, cheerful vocalizations, and unique personalities. Over the years, my appreciation for them has only deepened. Whether it’s the enthusiastic sounds of excitement whenever they hear a rustling veggie bag or the way they stretch out their hind legs to reach a coveted snack, guinea pigs have a way of making every day a little brighter.” Read more piggie praises and why guinea pigs make delightful companions in “Guinea pigs are small but big on personality.”
Have a great week!
Candace
