Welcome to week 4 of Women’s History Month: “Discrimination is discrimination, and it’s wrong, whether you’re a woman or a chicken.” – Ingrid Newkirk, PETA Founder and President. This week, the Marin Humane DEIJ committee is shining the spotlight on a few of the many amazing women who played a major role in the history of animal welfare and advocacy. Women have always been at the forefront of animal rights and anti-cruelty movements throughout history, with many being the founders of animal organizations and humane societies over the past 150+ years. Read more in this terrific piece, Women’s History Month Animal Welfare.

Ukrainian refugees & their pets: If you’ve been interested in learning more about efforts to assist Ukrainian refugees and their pets, you can join a moderated discussion with Greater Good Charities‘ Noah Horton, Chief Operating Officer, and Denise Bash, VP of Pet Programs, Disaster Response on Tuesday, March 29th at 4pm PST. Right now, Greater Good Charities is providing much-needed cash assistance to humanitarian and animal welfare partners on the ground. They are also talking to other NGO’s that have a presence on the ground to work together as distribution partners so that we are not duplicating efforts. You can register for the Zoom webinar here.

Tails of Marin: Spring is in full force, and while most of us are delighting in all the trees, plants and flowers coming to life again, it’s important to keep a close eye on our pets — especially what they nibble on. In “Keep your pets safe from toxic plants,” this week’s Tails of Marin article is a good reminder on how to be good pet parents and keep our fur babies as safe as we can this spring — and all year round

Save the date! After a two-year hiatus, the Volunteer Appreciation Party is back by popular demand. So … mark your calendars for the party of the year on Saturday, April 23rd at 2pm! Join us in the pavilion to enjoy delicious food, refreshing beverages, fun games & raffle, and of course, the excellent company of your fellow volunteers!

Have a wonderful week!
