Greetings Volunteers,

It’s time to have a celebration of YOU, our wonderful volunteers! Please join us at the Volunteer Appreciation Party on Saturday, April 26th! The festivities begin at 11am in the pavilion on the Novato campus with a delicious brunch, mimosa bar, fun games & raffle, and the company of your fellow volunteers. RSVP at VolunteerParty@marinhumane.org by April 15th. We look forward to raising a glass in your honor!

Shelter update: We currently have 216 animals in our collective care. 176 are at Marin Humane: 55 animals in foster and 121 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 26 dogs, 4 puppies, 53 cats, 4 kittens, 6 rabbits, 15 guinea pigs, 4 rodents, 4 reptiles, and 5 birds. 40 animals are with the Hopalong Foster Program: 2 animals are in the Oakland office and 38 are in foster or offsite adoption sites!

Adoption update: Yay for Wednesday! Here’s the adoption slideshow, showcasing some super cute moments from last week. Congratulations and thank you to all the adopters! A bonus — the Adoption Report for more details!

Hopalong happenings: The Hopalong move has begun and we want to take a moment to thank our amazing volunteers! Whether it was packing up boxes, moving shelves, power washing crates, organizing cat and dog food, or setting up our new space, your contributions are so greatly appreciated! Thank you all so much for pitching in! We’ll be continuing the move over the rest of this week and will be setting up and settling into our new location starting the first week of April. More information will be coming out shortly for our regular, weekly volunteers and we look forward to seeing everyone in our new digs! If you’ve got a spare few hours and can help with some moving tasks in the coming weeks (and you’re not already signed up), please email Meagan at mstangel@marinhumane.org. Thanks!

Happy ending! Every animal who comes to Marin Humane receives full medical care. But some animals need more than others. Crystal had a rough start to life after she was found in the road next to her mother, who was killed when she was hit by a car. A good Samaritan brought Crystal and her sister to Marin Humane, where we soon discovered both had Panleukopenia, a potentially fatal disease. We jumped into action to help these poor kittens with medicine, fluids, and other supportive care.

While her sister recovered quickly, poor Crystal just could not get a break! She faced a slew of successive ailments that included ringworm, an allergic reaction to ringworm medication, a persistent URI, and a skin infection. Thanks to donor support for our Critical Care Fund, we could give Crystal all the medical care and time she needed to recover, get spayed, and get ready for adoption. However, a long time in isolation meant that Crystal needed extra help socializing. Because she was still highly contagious, she needed special volunteers willing to take the necessary precautions while they gave her the socialization she desperately needed. Luckily, we had an all-star team who could do just that. Crystal did not take long to find her new home once she was healthy and comfortable outside of her cage. While a bit shy at first, she loved playing with cat toys and settling on laps for extended petting sessions. We’re lucky to be able to treat animals like Crystal – with our awesome veterinary staff and volunteers … and, of course, our generous donors. If Crystal’s story moves you and you’d like to make a donation to the Critical Care Fund, please click here.

Tails of Marin: Our pets rely on us to take care of them when they’re sick or injured. But if we’re not prepared, panic and confusion can hinder our ability to act effectively when they need us most. The best way to increase your chances of responding quickly and calmly to a pet emergency is to familiarize yourself with basic pet first aid techniques. Get some tips in this week’s Tails of Marin article, “Knowing basic pet first aid can save lives.”

Woofstock volunteers: We could use a few volunteers to help set-up the Woofstock raffle on Saturday, May 3rd from 11am-2pm. Please let me know if you’d like to help us out with this fun job! Also, if you can stick around after the event on May 4th and help us clean-up from 5-6pm, we could use a few extra sets of hands! Thanks!!

Have a great week!
