Hopalong happenings! Almost every Saturday of the year, we’ve got an amazing, all volunteer team hosting our mobile adoption events at Woodlands Pet Food and Treat store locations! Pictured here is one such dream team from a recent event! We’ve already had four Saturday events in March, so this weekend it’s time for everybody to enjoy a much-deserved break. Thanks to each and every one of you fabulous volunteers who helped our pups find adopters this month, whether it was in Mill Valley, Greenbrae, San Rafael, or Novato. We look forward to having your help getting a fresh batch of cute pups adopted in April!

B&Tea Blog: Calling all cat lovers, you gonna love this B&Tea blog post, “I Miss My Cat(s),” from volunteer Kim Bromley. You’re welcome!

Advocacy Day: Animal Advocacy Day is coming up! Since its founding in 1907, Marin Humane has been a leading voice when it comes to advocating for animals. It’s something ingrained in our DNA. We keep our finger on the pulse of important issues, collaborate with other advocates, lend our voice when needed, and lobby for change. Please consider joining us for Animal Advocacy Day in Sacramento on Tuesday, April 16th. This lobby day with our partners: the SFSPCA, San Diego Humane Society and CalAnimals, is a wonderful chance to be with others who are willing to, as a group, encourage our legislators to support our animal welfare bills, learn about the issues being supported and meet with the staff and/or elected officials in our state capitol. Please RSVP to Sam McNaughton at smcnaughton@marinhumane.org if you’d like to join us and we’ll get you more details, including carpooling options to Sacramento!

San Quentin update! Welcome to another heartwarming San Quentin feature! About a month ago, we featured an adorable dog named Ricky Bobby who was in our Pen Pals program, healing from an ear infection and allergic dermatitis, which had caused him to lose patches of hair all over his body. It took a couple months for Ricky Bobby to heal, but luckily he didn’t have to spend all that time in the shelter. Instead, he got to enjoy the company of his handler, Aaron! Aaron put in lots of time training Ricky Bobby and it really showed! With Aaron’s help, Ricky Bobby mastered several commands, like “wait” and “leave it,” developed great recall, learned how to use a mark bucket, and even reduced his eager pulling on leash during walks. And of course, they were great pals who enjoyed lots of cuddles, too! Once Ricky Bobby was ready to go up for adoption, his time in the Pen Pals program had set him up for success as a wonderful family dog. And sure enough, he was quickly scooped up by an adorable family! We’re so grateful to Aaron and the whole program for getting Ricky ready for adoption and helping him find a loving home. . You can learn more about this special program here.

Tails of Marin: Gone are the days when adopting a pet meant navigating a maze of stringent requirements and exhaustive background checks — and that’s a good thing! By removing unnecessary barriers, such as strict income or home ownership requirements, shelters and rescues have opened the door to a wider pool of potential adopters, including individuals and families from more diverse backgrounds. Learn more in this week’s Tails of Marin article, “Removing barriers to pet adoptions means more happy endings.”

Calling all creative kids! Ask your kids or grand-kids to get their art supplies out and help us design this year’s Humane Summer Camp t-shirt! Open to kids in grades 1 – 8, this annual contest runs through April 26. 1st, 2nd, and 3rd place winners from each age-based category will have their artwork displayed at Marin Humane. Plus, the Grand Prize winner will see their artwork on Marin Humane’s 2024 Humane Summer Camp T-Shirts – worn by more than 300 students! Artwork should be all-original, flat, and fit on an 8.5″ x 11″ paper. Aside from that, let your animal-loving dreams run free! Find all the details here.

Gone fishin’! Well, I’m not actually going fishing, but I am going on vacation! I will be out of the office from March 29th through April 10th, which means that this blog will be on vacation, too! Look forward to catching up with you when I return!

Be well,
Candace
