Greetings Volunteers!

On Sunday, we hosted Woofstock with 900 animal-loving guests, scores of (incredibly) well-behaved dogs, two terrific bands, 23 vendors, four food trucks, and nearly 80 (fabulous) volunteers! And wow, what a day– Woofstock 2022 was our biggest and best-ever community event! Thank you to all those who attended the event, donated an item to the raffle, donated a bottle of wine to the Dog Collar Wine Toss Game, and volunteered at Woofstock — we couldn’t have hosted such a fantastic event without you! See below for even more photos!

Shelter update: We currently have 228 animals in our care: 127 animals in foster and 101 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner. Our residents include: 23 dogs, 3 puppies, 28 cats, 25 kittens, 8 rabbits, 10 guinea pigs, 1 rodent, 1 reptile, and 2 birds.

Adoptions update: We had a blast at Woofstock but we ALSO had a blast finding forever homes for our shelter animals all week long. So three cheers for everyone who adopted a new family member this week! And, yes, that is our CEO Nancy McKenney and her new dog, Daisy in the photo :). Enjoy the adoption slideshow and the details in this week’s Adoption Report.

Kitty Corner volunteer opportunities: We are looking for volunteers to help us at Kitty Corner, our offsite feline adoption site in San Anselmo. Kitty Corner is a small but mighty space with a sleek design and state-of-the-art kitty condos housing felines in comfort until they find their fur-ever homes. Click on the Kitty Corner Job Descriptions. If interested in training as a Kitty Corner adoption counselor or cat caretaker, please contact me at calexander@marinhumane.org.

Calendar photo contest: Join our 2022 Calendar Photo Contest and see your beloved buddy on the cover! It’s easy to participate — just submit a favorite photo of your cute canine, fabulous feline, or other pets, and encourage your family and friends to support the shelter animals by voting for your pet — each dollar equals a vote and much-needed funds for the shelter! Top vote-getters will be featured on the cover or as one of the pets of the month throughout the year, and all entrants will be included on the collage pages! The contest starts today and ends on June 4, 2021. Each entry (and each vote) helps the shelter animals! Here are all the details!

There’s always more to the story when people give up their pets: When the recent story of a dog left tied to a fire hydrant went viral, the internet was awash with quick judgment and harsh condemnation. But as is so often the case, there was a lot more to Baby Girl’s story. Giving up a companion animal is usually a fraught and emotional process, and it’s often triggered by a guardian’s financial or physical struggles. Many times these heartbroken families just need solutions and support, certainly much more than they need our condemnation. And this was the case for Baby Girl, whose guardian was struggling with homelessness on top of cancer treatments. Read our Tails of Marin article here.

Here at Marin Humane, we’re proud to help not just animals but also the people who love them. From our Pet Safety Net and free community clinics to our No Place Like Home program for folks seeking to re-home their animals, we aim to support both animals AND people – without judgment.

Have a sweet and safe holiday weekend!
