Hello Volunteers,
Woofstock brought together nearly 700 supporters for a feel-good day on the lawn — and we couldn’t be more grateful. It was wonderful to celebrate alongside such a passionate, animal-loving community! Huge kudos to the nearly 100 Woofstock volunteers who made this such a smooth-running, outstanding event! Thank you to all the volunteers who helped us before, during, and after the event. Thank you to all the volunteers who bought tickets and attended Woofstock. Thank you to all those who donated wine or an item to the raffle! We are so grateful for our family of volunteers! Here are a few photos from Woofstock, but scroll down to see more!
Shelter update: We currently have 305 animals in our collective care. 106 are at our Novato campus, including 31 dogs, 6 puppies, 40 cats, 11 kittens, 5 rabbits, 1 guinea pig, 6 reptiles, 2 birds, and 4 fowl. 6 animals are in our Oakland office; 8 are at Kitty Corner and the Woodlands stores; and 185 are in foster homes.
Adoption update: This week’s adoption slideshow is short but sweet! Happy Wednesday and Happy May(where’s the sun?!) #adoptdontshop #animalshelter #adoption #rescuepets. Here’s the Adoption Report, too!
Hopalong happenings: You may have noticed some cute Hopalong kitties when you’ve shopped in the Woodlands Pet Food & Treats stores in Marin. The Woodlands stores are one of our prime adoption outposts for cats. When the Woodlands San Rafael location closed recently, we were worried about not having as much space for adoptable cats in the other Woodlands stores. So, we ordered a new, large cat condo for the Greenbrae location, but it came unassembled! A Hopalong staff member’s husband unsuccessfully tried to put it together, so we knew we’d need someone with building expertise. Enter Hopalong volunteer Justin! Justin helps us with cat care each week, but he came to our rescue with a surprise skill: furniture making. Justin mentioned that he used to own a custom furniture shop, had plenty of tools at the ready, and would be happy to help. He polished off the task cheerfully and efficiently, just like how he goes about cat care. Additionally, thanks to his help, we can now adopt more cats at the Greenbrae store. Thank you, Justin! (Here’s a photo of the complicated and now fully-assembled cat condo!)
Volunteer High Five to Ned Black! “A little while ago, we brought 15 dog/puppies from the overcrowded, under-resourced shelter in Clearlake. Ned came in the day after we brought the dogs down from the Clearlake shelter, which turned out to be a very challenging day. The dogs were placed in our Dog isolation kennels and it was a bit of a hot mess: stressed dogs, poop everywhere, and some of the dogs were housed back to back so we had to shuffle them in a specific way to ensure cleaning could be done efficiently. I had neglected to give Ned a heads up about the situation in DISO the night before but none the less he arrived ready to take on the task of cleaning very messy areas, and kept a positive attitude throughout the entire thing. No task too big or small, Ned is here to help Animal Care with cleaning dog kennels, and we so very much appreciate him and his great attitude!” ~ Kyle Dunlop, Animal Care Supervisor
Kitty Corner – 11 years and counting! For more than a decade, Kitty Corner in San Anselmo has been helping cats find homes—and now, that work continues. Marin Humane and Pet Food Express have committed to keeping the space open for at least five more years. We’re deeply grateful to the volunteers who have made this program so successful. With expanded hours (open 7 days a week!) and a renewed commitment, we’re looking forward to helping even more cats meet their match.
Tails of Marin: This week’s Tails of Marin gives you some pointers on “How to keep you, your dog safe from ticks.”
Volunteer High Five to Gwenda Murray! “Gwenda has been such a dedicated cat care volunteer for over nine years! Her quiet commitment makes a big difference for the cats in her care. She consistently spends her time cleaning and maintaining the cat areas, making sure each space is clean, comfortable, and welcoming for the kitties. From refreshing litter boxes to wiping down surfaces and organizing supplies, Gwenda approaches every task with patience and attention to detail. Her reliability helps create a healthier environment for the cats and supports the work of the animal care team. Thank you, Gwenda, for your ongoing commitment to the cats in our care. We love working with you!”~ Pam Lopez, Animal Care Technician
