Greetings Volunteers!
Think resale, not retail this holiday season! That’s the motto for the Marin Humane Thrift Shop, conveniently located in downtown San Anselmo. Our all-volunteer run Thrift Shop has many treasures, from jewelry, household items, clothing, and much more! Be sure to come do some holiday shopping at the Thrift Shop — open Monday-Saturday, 11am-4pm. All proceeds support Marin Humane’s veterinary clinic. Spend a little to make many lives happy :).
Shelter update: We currently have 327 animals in our collective care. 258 are at Marin Humane: 124 animals in foster and 134 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 15 dogs, 4 puppies, 60 cats, 29 kittens, 10 rabbits, 9 guinea pigs, 2 rodents, 1 reptile, and 4 fowl. 69 animals are with Hopalong: 11 animals are in the Oakland office and 58 cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies are in foster or offsite adoption sites!
Adoptions update: It’s Wednesday and it’s happy adoption slideshow day! Thank you to all of last week’s adopters! This special snake featured in the photo is a Blacktail Cribo. It was brought to WildCare when somebody found it with a glue trap on its head! WildCare staff were able to remove it and bring this beautiful snake to us. He has been adopted by a savvy family and will now live a wonderful life with them.
A friend of our shelter recently passed away and left an incredibly generous legacy by paying the adoption fees for 100 cats. Adoption fees for adult cats (5 months and up) will be waived until we hit 100! We’ve found homes for 30 kitties so far! No better time to bring a feline friend into your family — check out all the cats available for adoption on our website here. And if you’re interested in more specifics, here’s the Adoption Report.
Hopalong happenings! It’s hard to believe we only have 4 mobile adoption events remaining in 2023! We’ll be at the San Rafael Woodlands Pet Food & Treats store for the mobile event this Saturday the 18th. Our attendee list is still being finalized, but oh my goodness, we’re expecting lots of cuties to be there (including this adorable trio of doodle puppies)! We could use a few additional Dog Handler volunteers to help manage the pups during the event, so let Sam (smcnaughton@marinhumane.org) know if you’d like to join the team this weekend! We’ll then take a break for Thanksgiving weekend, before we wrap up the year with adoption events the first three Saturdays of December. Wish us luck, and lots of happy new homes for our pups this holiday season!
Tails of Marin: This week’s Tails of Marin article starts: “Public warned as yellow-eyed wolf-dog hybrid on the loose,” Newsweek alerted in a recent headline. “Wolf hybrid spotted roaming outskirts of California town,” warned the Independent. This was, of course, in addition to all the local news and social media coverage this local story received. Shadow, the dog in question, is indeed a dog-wolf hybrid but he wasn’t lurking around looking for Goldilocks. He had escaped from his home in Santa Rosa and had been running scared for five days. Fortunately, he was caught and safely returned to his guardian.” Read the full piece, “Wolf-dog hybrids are becoming more popular – and that’s not a good thing .”
