Greetings Volunteers,
Happy Thanksgiving! I hope you get to visit with family, friends, and companion animals. It’s a great time of year to soak in the spirit of thankfulness, giving, and gratitude. All of us on staff are beyond grateful to all the Marin Humane + Hopalong volunteers + fosters!! You amaze and inspire us every day :).
Shelter update: We currently have 295 animals in our collective care. 219 are at Marin Humane: 74 animals in foster and 145 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner, including: 18 dogs, 2 puppies, 45 cats, 49 kittens, 14 rabbits, 3 guinea pigs, 2 rodents, 5 reptiles, 6 birds, and 1 fowl. 76 animals are with Hopalong: 4 animals are in the Oakland office and 72 cats, kittens, dogs, and puppies are in foster or offsite adoption sites!
Adoptions update: Today’s update includes two adoption slideshows for your viewing pleasure: November 11-17 and November 18-24! We’re so grateful to everyone who braved the wet weather to meet out animals and adopt a new best friend! Congratulations to all of the recent adopters who chose to adopt, not shop!
If you’re interested in more details, here’s the Adoption Report for the past 10 days.
Hopalong happenings! It was a clean sweep on Saturday! All six of the dogs and puppies at our mobile adoption event at the Novato Woodlands Pet Food & Treats store were adopted in under three hours! Pictured here are Willow (black & white puppy), Gonzo (black & white poodle mix), and Francesca (Frenchie mix) with their new families. We’re so grateful to have an amazing group of volunteers that makes the magic happen for our pups and potential adopters almost every Saturday of the year. They’ll take a much-deserved break this coming Saturday, and then we’ll be back at it with more cuteness in December!
Tails of Marin: It’s your lucky day as we have two Tails of Marin articles for your reading pleasure this holiday weekend: “Backyard breeders are bad for pets and those who buy them” and “Thanksgiving – A time to be grateful for our pets, wildlife.”
Sip & Shop!
Please join us on Friday December 13 from 5:30-7:30pm in the Whittell building lobby and Ed Room for the Sip and Shop Art and Craft Market. Wildlife rescue!
Last week, during the storm, our Animal Services officers received a call from a Good Samaritan who’d spotted a young raccoon all alone in their backyard. The raccoon was soaking wet and clearly needed help. Our officers headed straight out and quickly determined the raccoon was hypothermic and urgently needed to get dry and warm. After a gentle towel dry, they carefully loaded him into a carrier, and then into a toasty warm truck for transport to WildCare, our local wildlife hospital. We’re thrilled to say that our partners at WildCare expect him to recover! While it’s a mystery how the raccoon ended up alone and struggling in the storm, he was alert in the morning and in pretty good shape, so things are certainly looking up for this little guy. Our incredible officers can be reached 24/7 to assist with animal emergencies in Marin County! Just call 415-883-4621 for help.
Volunteer High Five to Beth Walters: “Beth has only been a Dog Pet Pal for six months, but golly, has she made an impact on the team! Here are a few kudos from her fellow Dog Pet Pals: ‘Just wanted to tell you what a great job Beth has been doing filling in for one of our DPPs who’s out for a bit. The fact that Beth has been doing all these additional shifts has truly saved Rob and me. Beth is a pleasure to work with and does not shy away from any of the more challenging dogs. Tonight, she handled Kona like a pro. She had her out to the adoption yard in minutes with no issues. On top of all the extra shifts, she is fostering Nala. We appreciate Beth and are so grateful for her help! ~ Hilary.’ And from yet another team member, ‘I wholeheartedly agree with Hilary! Beth is a Rockstar DPP who knows how to handle the dogs while also being a dream to work with. Not sure what her secret is with Kona, but it’s truly impressive and amazing :).Thank you so much for helping, Beth!! ~ Rob.’ Thank you, Beth, for going above and beyond to help your teammates and, most especially, for taking such good care of the shelter dogs!” ~ Jane Aten, Shelter canine Behavior Coordinator
