Greetings volunteers!

National Cat Day is coming up this weekend so it’s the purr-fect time for a paw-ty! To celebrate, we’ve decided to waive adoption fees for ALL adult cats in the shelter, ALL week long! Adopt any kitty 5 months or older through Sunday, October 30, and we’ll cover the fee, you provide the loving home. Spread the word! Meet all our awesome cats waiting for homes right here.

Shelter update: We currently have 228 animals in our care: 90 animals in foster and 138 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner. Our residents include: 25 dogs, 2 puppies, 36 cats, 39 kittens, 7 rabbits, 8 guinea pigs, 15 rodents, 3 reptiles, and 3 birds.

Adoptions update: Happy Monday! Look at all these magical matches we made last week! Halloween is almost here and there’s nothing scarier than missing out on true love, so enjoy this week’s adoption slideshow and full Adoption Report!

Bath mats needed! We’re using loads of bath mats in the new cat rooms — we don’t want those purr-fect paws to land on the cold concrete floors — and in the rabbit rooms. BUT, we can only use bath mats that DO NOT have a rubber backing. Any size, any color, and no rubber backing (trying to avoid a dryer fire, yikes!). You can place them in the donation bins in the front of the shelter. The kitties and bunnies appreciate the extra comfort in their temporary homes!!

Community clinic smashing success! The community clinic that took place last Saturday in the Canal neighborhood of San Rafael was the biggest and best yet! 172 cats and dogs were seen by the three veterinarians at the clinic who provided brief vet exams, vaccinations, and flea medication. Staff and volunteers also offered pet food, harnesses, collars, and even dog clothes! People lined-up hours before we arrived and patiently waited for their turn. Many thanks for your support as we offer this valuable service to the community.

Happy ending! We love hearing from our adopters! Though I often share happy adoption stories of cats and dogs, I think you’ll enjoy reading this happy update from the adopter of Hayward the pigeon: “I’m 95% sure Hayward is a female. She has bonded beautifully with my male pigeon, Peace, and they are perfect together! The other pigeon I adopted from Marin Humane is super mellow and is now named Pearl. If you get a male pigeon in the near future I’d love a BFF for Pearl :)”

Tails of Marin: You may have already seen this week’s Tails of Marin, “How nosework enriches a dog’s life,” as it was also this month’s B&Tea blog post. If you missed it, this article is scent-tilating!

Volunteer needed: Are you looking to help the shelter, but would prefer to volunteer from home? And are you pretty comfortable on the computer? If you answered “yes” to both of these questions, then we have a role for you! Our Community Engagement department needs a volunteer three days a week to respond to online applications, about 30 minutes/day, all training provided! If interested, please email me at calexander@marinhumane.org.

Dogtoberfest! Get in the spirit and celebrate Howl’oween during a spooktacular day of fun at Strawberry Village! Come in costume on Saturday, October 29 to do the Trick-or-Treat crawl for lots of sweet treats and register your pet at Woodlands Pet Food & Treats for the pet costume contest! We’ll also have lots of dogs and cats looking for their furr-ever homes, so come ready to mingle with our furry cuties.

Hope you have a spook-tacular week!
