Greetings volunteers!

At long last, the Volunteer Handbook has been updated! Please open the 2022 Volunteer Handbook and read through all the important information, including the Marin Humane volunteer dress code, social media policy, and much more!

Shelter update: We currently have 193 animals in our care: 93 animals in foster and 100 animals in the shelter/Kitty Corner. Our residents include: 17 dogs, 1 puppy, 40 cats, 12 kittens, 6 rabbits, 10 guinea pigs, 2 rodents, 5 reptiles, 6 birds, and 1 fowl.

Adoptions update: Hello to a new Wednesday! If you need a mid-week pick-me-up, here are some totally awesome adoptions from last week to boost your mood! Congratulations and thank you to all of the adopters! And here’s the Adoption Report for more details.

Happy ending: “Dear Marin Humane Adoption Team – On the one year anniversary of bringing home ‘Big Dove’ and ‘Simba’ —now Marius and César, respectively, I wanted to share some photos and give an update. They would probably be unrecognizable to you now, not only because they’ve grown into two such big, beautiful, and oh-so-handsome men, but also because they are so relaxed and communicative now, they rule the house!

César sleeps with me every night, and Marius, while still a little shy at times, is opening up more and more and loves belly rubs! He also loves having the base of his tail massaged and pushes off his hind feet to increase the pressure. They are the best part of my day every day and I make sure they know it. They are quite spoiled with daily toy time, dog puzzles (the most advanced ones of course because they’re way too smart), and Churu treat time. Marius loves Tiki Cat chicken broth so much he talks and purrs while I prepare it, and has a special happy strut ahead of me as I carry his bowl. César loves to be held, in fact loves to be carried all over the house, and is pretty much the boss of everything. He’s always letting me know what time it is and starts purring whenever I talk to him.

They are named after 2 characters from an old French film trilogy: ‘Marius, Fanny, and César’. Marius is the handsome, young lover with wanderlust in his eyes; César is the ever amused father who’s seen it all and nothing gets past him. Needless to say these two are living up to their namesakes. (And someday I may need to find Fanny, but for now that’s me.) They remain devoted to each other, play-fighting and cuddling together on and off all day, and they watch TV with me from ‘their’ chair which you’ll see in the photos. Together we are a sweet little family and I couldn’t be happier that I had the great fortune to bring them home.

Thanks to all of you on the staff who helped Marius, aka Big Dove, and Cesar, aka Simba, on their journey. Thanks to all of you for the very beautiful, important work you do, helping all these precious angels find their way home. They bring so much love and light into our lives, what could be more important than that? Sincerest thanks from Marius, César, and me, Katherine.”

Volunteer High Five to Beverly Hudson! I’d like to give a high five to Beverly, a Kitty Corner volunteer on Sundays. Beverly is reliable, knowledgeable, calm, attentive, thorough, and generally a “godsend!” Last week Bev stayed until 5 pm because it was a very busy day with adopters and a live stream with Pet Food Express in the middle of the day. She got KC looking spic and span, watched the door while we did the recording, and helped walk-ins. She normally leaves at 2pm but I think she realized I was a bit overwhelmed and stayed until we closed at 5pm, all without a grumble. She’s great! Thank you, Bev, for all your help every week!’” ~Angela Barlow, adoptions Kitty Corner. Ruthie Tolleson, our Adoption Supervisor adds, “Beverly has been with us since Day #1 of Kitty Corner when we opened in 2015! She has been a HUGE asset to KC. Her skills with both our clients and our feline residents at are impressive. Not only is Beverly an adoption counselor, she also comes to clean and feed our furry friends – not one or two days a week, but THREE shifts a week – WOW! High Five for sure!!

Nugget Market’s support Marin Humane! Marin Humane has been a beneficiary of Nugget Market’s scrip program for several years. Through this program Marin Humane receives between 1-4% of revenues based on total monthly purchases by shoppers who have registered and chosen Marin Humane as their preferred charity. If you’re already participating in the scrip program, thank you! Consider this a friendly reminder to keep using your scrip card when you shop! For those of you who are interested in participating, it takes less than 3 minutes to register and it works the same way as a CVS card or any other similar program. To register, go to and click on “Participants Sign Up.” Once registered, you present your Nugget scrip card as the cashier rings up your purchases and that’s it. If you would like to participate, or have lost your scrip card and need a replacement, I’ve placed some Nugget cards in an envelope in the tray outside the volunteer office!

Tails of Marin: In this week’s Tails of Marin, “Celebrating Marin youth & their love of animals,” we feature some of the ways the awesome kids in our community put their compassion for animals into action! Speaking of that, if you ever want a pick-me-up, be sure to check out the Compassion in Action blog on our website.
