Greetings Volunteers,

We hope this finds you coping well with all the changes and updates in our county, and still finding time to enjoy the warm, sunny days with your pets and other loved ones.

Shelter update: We currently have 159 animals in our care: 62 animals in foster and 97 in the shelter. The shelter residents include: 22 dogs, 3 puppies, 41 cats, 17 kittens, 1 rabbit, 6 guinea pigs, 3 chickens, 2 roosters and 2 parakeets.

Adoptions updateIt was quite the week for adoptions, from cats and kittens to box turtles and guinea pigs! Thank you to all the adopters who visited us for opting to adopt, not shop. And we still have lots more cuties available and waiting for homes! Enjoy the adoption slideshow, sure to bring a smile to your face!

Tails of Marin: Did you know that after cats and dogs, rabbits are the third most popular pet in America. Likewise, they’re also frequently surrendered to animal shelters. And right now, rabbits are facing a deadly virus as we’ve written about in this blog. If you have space in your home to temporarily house one of our rabbits, please let us know. Better yet, consider adopting one of our wonderful bunnies, and spread the word to friends and family. Learn more in this week’s Tails of Marin.

Volunteer High Five: “Ann Marie Santana is one of our amazing dog pet pals. I would like to recognize Ann Marie because she goes above and beyond her volunteer job description all the time including taking dogs on adventures off campus. In the past she has taken dogs struggling in the shelter environment off campus for a few hours for long hikes or to the beach. This week she took Kobe, a German Shepherd (who has now been adopted!) out for a few hours. Not only do these outings offer the dogs some time to decompress, it offers potential adopters additional ‘real life’ information about how they do in the car, in public, hiking, etc. I also receive awesome photos that I can then upload into their adoption profile. There is so much more that Ann Marie does for all of the canines at Marin Humane. Thank you for all that you do, Ann Marie!!” ~ Kyle Dunlop, Animal Care Supervisor

B&Tea Blog: You’ve got to give it to Dawn Kovell, our Director of Behavior & Training. She lets us delight in her adventures (and mishaps?!) with her three dogs and cats. Just looking at this photo, you know just where Dawn is taking us on this Cautionary Tale!

Happy ending: We wanted to send a ‘pupdate’ about Evelyn, who we adopted at the end of August 2020. We kept the name that Marin Humane gave her, because it’s so sweet, and suits her so well! Our adoption experience was great, thanks to the warm and caring adoption team, and we really appreciated the excellent support from the behavior team after adoption, when we had some questions in the first few days about encouraging her to eat and drink. Evelyn’s adjustment to our household was easy overall, including a little bit of house-training. She’s so eager to please and treat-motivated, it makes training fun and mostly a breeze. She’s so affectionate and pretty much the best little companion we could ever ask for. She likes the car, and when we go out on neighborhood walks or to parks, we work on getting more confident with unfamiliar people and other dogs. Here’s a picture of her at the dog-friendly Bean Hollow beach in Pescadero where she always seems to have the time of her life, dashing around on the beach on a long 30-ft leash and then walking the bluff trail above the surf. Thank you again for rescuing her, and for matching her with us. She’s a great love of our life, and now we can’t imagine life without her.”
