Greetings Volunteers,

Lots of news and announcements this week, so here we go!

Shelter update: We currently have 112 animals in our care: 38 animals in foster and 74 animals in the shelter. The shelter residents include: 24 dogs, 5 puppies, 25 cats, 4 rabbits, 2 guinea pigs, 3 rodents, 4 reptiles, and 7 fowl.

Adoptions update: We’re kicking off this Wednesday with some really awesome adoptions from last week! We bid fond farewells to some dogs who’ve been with us quite a while and we were thrilllllled to see them head to their forever homes. Thank you so much to all the adopters. Here’s the Adoption Report so you can see who went home last week :).

Volunteer High Five to the Adoption Counselors! Hip hip hooray for our adoption counselor volunteers! This team of volunteers had a nice long hiatus during the peak of the pandemic in 2020 to mid-2021, but when we asked them to come back to help the adoptions staff, they couldn’t wait to return! There are lots of new ways we’re doing adoptions, but they’ve adapted with smiles and good cheer. The adoption counselors answer questions from the public that still walk into the shelter (though the adoption hallway remains closed), show them animals on a computer who might be a good fit for them, gather all the items needed when an animal goes home, and so much more! Thank you, adoption counselors, for your flexibility and continued enthusiasm for making happy endings come true! ~ Adoptions Team

Save the date! Mark your calendars for Anne Oliver’s retirement party – March 25th! We want to congratulate Anne, Director of Volunteer Services, on her many decades working in animal welfare, recognize all that she has done while at Marin Humane, and wish her well in her new chapter in life. The celebration will be in the Marin Humane Pavilion on Friday, March 25th from 4:00 -6:00 pm. Invitations and more details to come soon.

Volunteer Opportunities: Looking to broaden your volunteer horizons and do something new this year? Well, we need volunteers in a couple of areas, including the Marin Humane Thrift Shop and veterinary clinic, plus helping at Hopalong’s Mobile Adoption events. Here are the three job descriptions: Thrift Shop Job Description, Vet Clinic Volunteer Job Description, and Hopalong Dog Handler Job Description. Please email Candace at if interested in learning more about one of these opportunities!

Tails of Marin: “Patience, training, and love all help a fearful dog” is this week’s Tails of Marin. “Just like humans, pets need early socialization to live healthy, happy lives with their families. However, dogs from puppy mills, hoarding situations, or dogs that lived without a home for a long time often become fearful, sometimes for the rest of their lives.” Read on here!

Woofstock 2022! After a two-year hiatus, we’re so excited that Marin Humane’s annual Woofstock music festival will be on Sunday, May 22, 2022 on the great lawn at our Novato campus! This event has the largest crowds of any of our special events with attendance around 800 people! Our animal-loving attendees – and their well-behaved canines – come back year after year for a fun-filled day of live music, vendors, kids’ zone, raffle, food, wine and beer, and well, fun! One of the most popular (and revenue-generating) features of Woofstock is the raffle. Could you donate an item to the raffle? Popular donations we’ve received in the past include tickets, gift certificates/cards, products, classes, and unique experiences. If you’ve got something to donate, please use this Woofstock Raffle Donation Form. Thank you!! Details on volunteering at Woofstock to come in a few more weeks :).

Be well, and enjoy the week!

Candace and Anne
