Greetings Volunteers,

This Friday, June 4th, is National Hug Your Cat Day! All you feline fans, hug your cat, snap a pic, and send it to us to share with all the volunteers. Speaking of sharing photos, scroll to the end of this post and check out the photos of volunteers with their rescue dogs :).

Shelter update: We currently have 190 animals in our care: 111 animals in foster and 79 in the shelter. The shelter residents include: 23 dogs, 29 cats, 13 kittens, 6 rabbits, 3 guinea pigs, 1 hamster, 2 rats, 1 chicken, and 1 pigeon.

Adoptions update: Hip hip hooray to all of the adopters from last week! Thank you for giving these wonderful animals their furever homes. Check out all these sweet things heading to their new homes in this week’s going-home slideshow.

(Fox)Tails of Marin: If it’s summer it must be foxtail season …. ughhh! For dog guardians, foxtails can be your dog’s nemesis! In this week’s Tails of Marin, “How to keep your dog safe from foxtails,” you’ll get some great tips to make you and your dog have a happier, healthier summer.

Puppy fosters needed: From time to time, Marin Humane takes in underage puppies that are too young for adoption and need a nurturing environment until they are old enough for adoption. Think you might be up for fostering puppies?! We are looking for volunteers who can commit to fostering puppies in their home, often for several weeks. These pups are young and will require more individual attention and care then they would receive in a shelter setting, making the foster home an ideal placement. Fostering puppies is time-consuming but oh so rewarding! You’d ensure that their basic needs for food, warmth, safety, and socialization are met, while closely monitoring their health and growth. As their caretakers, you’d also bring the pups to Marin Humane for regular vaccine appointments. We’ll provide you with food, supplies, and the support you need every step of the way. If interested in learning more, please contact Foster Care Coordinator Suzanne Gollin at

Gala donations needed: Last year, we hosted a virtual Gala, and now we’re moving forward with our plans to host our 2021 Gala on September 25th. It may be in person, it may be virtual, it may be both, but we will be doing something to ensure we have the resources needed to help every vulnerable animal in Marin! Hosting the Gala in either format gives us the opportunity to raise money through our ever-popular silent and live auctions. Could you donate — or procure a donation — for this year’s auction? Popular donations we’ve received in the past include event tickets, gift certificates/cards, wine packages, products, services, travel, and one-of-a-kind experiences. Or, if you have some contacts you’d prefer us to reach out to, just pass them along Molly Foley, Events Manager, at or 415-506-6265. Here’s the Auction Donation Form Gala 2021 for any donations you can obtain. Many many thanks!!

Happy Tails Newsletter: The Community Engagement department publishes a quarterly newsletter, Happy Tails, which has the apt tagline, “sharing the love of cats and dogs with the community.” Enjoy the Spring 2021 Happy Tails Newsletter.

Happy endings: Thank you to the many volunteers who sent in such sweet photos of themselves with their rescue dogs. Enjoy these photo collages. You might recognize a face or two, human and k9 🙂

Happy first week of June!
