Greetings Volunteers,

You’re receiving this blog post a day early because Marin Humane will be closed tomorrow, November 11th, in honor of Veterans Day. We thank all the veterans in Marin and beyond for their service.

Shelter update: We currently have 112 animals in our care: 47 animals in foster and 65 animals in the shelter. The shelter residents include: 41 cats, 6 kittens, 14 dogs, 1 turtle, 2 parakeets and 1 guinea pig.

Adoptions update: Another busy week of adoptions! Thanks to all the adopters who brought a new furry friend into their homes. Enjoy this slideshow of adoptions! We’ve made 1,317 happy adoptions since we started doing virtual adoptions during this pandemic, a 1% increase in adoptions from last year ,,, yeah!

Happy ending/happy beginning! Our new Outside Greeter volunteers are doing a great job, and one of the benefits of this position is getting to meet new, happy adopters. Michele emailed us this tale: “I wanted to share a beautiful adoption story from my greeter shift yesterday. A woman came in to adopt Magnolia an adorable grey kitty with one bad eye with impaired vision. Her cat she adopted from Marin Humane just passed away a few days ago. Everyone told her she should wait to adopt another cat. But her thinking was why wait when there are so many cats that need a loving home. So she saw Magnolia on our website and knew she was the perfect match. Not just because Magnolia is a cutey … but because the women works with blind people. What a wonderful loving ‘tail’…especially in a time when we all need more love & beauty!”

Kitten Workshop: We know better than anyone that kittens can be quite the handful! That’s why we created our Kittens 101 workshop – to help new kitten owners tackle every experience with confidence! Whether you’re feeling stumped by all the food and litter options, aren’t sure how to coax out a shy kitten, or need a rambunctious kitten to get their little razor claws in check, this workshop can help. The next virtual workshop is coming up this Thursday, November 12, so save your spot ASAP! We’ll be meeting safely via Zoom so there’s no need to leave your comfy couch. Get all the details and sign up here.

Tails of MarinNovember is Adopt-a-Senior-Pet Month so this week’s Tails of Marin celebrates senior dogs. Puppies are pretty hard to resist, but for me, so are our gray-muzzled friends. Senior dogs are often overlooked at shelters but they make fantastic companions and bring SO much joy! Stay tuned for a second piece later this month honoring our older feline friends.

Looking for a few more Greeters: We’ve launched the Outside Greeter volunteer position, and as you read in the above Happy Endings section, the volunteers are enjoying this role! The Outside Greeter assists with monitoring the needs of our customers, directing them where they need to go, answering questions, and generally enjoying being back at Marin Humane. We currently need Outside Greeters on Fridays — the shifts are 10am-12pm, 12-2pn, and 2-4pm. If you’re interested in learning more, please email Candace at calexander@marinhumane.orgThanks!

Take good care,

Anne and Candace
