Greetings Volunteers,

Oh what a night it was! Gala 2021 is in the books as an exceptional night of fundraising for the animals! Huge thanks to all the volunteers who made Saturday’s Gala a huge success! We’ve received rave reviews from all of the guests and really couldn’t have done anything better to make them feel welcome. With a record crowd of guests in attendance (20% increase over 2019), the bidding was lively resulting in more than $575,000 raised to help the animals! Woo-hoo!!

Shelter update: We currently have 166 animals in our care: 55 animals in foster and 111 in the shelter. The shelter residents include: 20 dogs, 11 puppies, 30 cats, 28 kittens, 8 rabbits, 4 guinea pigs, 2 rodents, 1 reptile, 3 birds and 4 fowl.

Adoptions update: What a week we had! Not only was Gala 2021 a resounding success, we also found happy homes for dozens of animals. We’d call that a win-win! Thank you to everyone who adopted this past week and to everyone who attended or donated to Gala 2021 for all the lives made happy! Enjoy this week’s adoption slideshow.

Community ClinicWe’re hosting our next FREE Drop-In Community Vaccination Clinic this Saturday, October 2nd from 11am – 1pm at the Marin Health & Wellness Center in San Rafael. If you’re a pet parent who’s struggling financially, we can help. Fund-a-Need: Our Pet Safety Net keeps pets with those who love them through support like free pet food and vaccinations, free behavior help, and vouchers for veterinary care. It’s just one of the amazing programs under our Community Engagement umbrella, along with Animal-Assisted Therapy, Humane Education, and more. And we couldn’t do it without the generosity of our animal-loving community! The Gala 2021 Fund-a-Need provides much-needed support for the Pet Safety Net and other life-changing programs. Watch this video for a deeper understanding on the impact of the Pet Safety Net. If you’d like to make a contribution, head to our website here.

Tails of MarinTeaching your dog tricks offers a lot of benefits — in addition to impressing your friends. It’s also a fun way to bond with your k9. In fact, teaching your dog tricks is a great mental workout for them which is just as important to an animal’s well-being as physical activity. Read this week’s Tails of Marin to learn more!

Our bunnies need you! Adopt, foster, or donate! Ready to take a bun home? Meet our available rabbits here. And don’t forget that we’re waiving adoption fees for all our bunnies through October 26! We have lots of buns waiting to hop into their forever homes. Or maybe you want to get started as a foster – either short-term or long-term. Send an email to Suzanne at sgollin@marinhumane.org. If you don’t have room at home for a bunny, you can still help us out! Have a look at our Small Companion Animal Wish List on Amazon and if you make a purchase, the supplies will be sent straight to our door. Thank you!

Columbia Sportswear discount: Just in time for a cold (and hopefully wet) winter, Marin Humane staff and volunteers have exclusive access to the Columbia Sportswear Employee Store from October 8th- October 31st only! Please see the  Columbia Sportswear Store Fall Invitation for details. Happy shopping!

B&Tea Blog: This week’s B&Tea blog post, “Grieving Your Beloved Pet,” is a difficult topic for many, but this post captures the pain and joy of having animals in your life. From the blog’s author, Kim Bromley, she shares: “Granted, grief is not the most charming or cheerful of subjects, but that’s part of my inspiration for writing about it. Grief doesn’t have to be avoided at all costs, feared, or debilitating. Grief can be (and actually is) the mechanism for finding peace when you’ve lost someone you love. A friend recently told me that grief is what heals us. Or as she so eloquently put it, grief breaks us and remakes us.”

Thank you Gala volunteers! Each and every Gala volunteer went above and beyond at this event. We heard comments of praise from many of our guests about the friendliness and helpfulness of all of our volunteers. It’s been two years since we’ve held an event of this magnitude and we simply could not have done it without our volunteers! Molly Foley, our Philanthropy Events Manager, said it best: “I have never worked with such a kick-ass group of volunteers before! They really knocked it out of the park so please relay my gratitude to them.” I agree, our volunteers are  amazing and we were so lucky to have their help this past Saturday night. (And every day 🙂

Hope you have a wonderful week!
