Sweet Karma was found this past September after she was hit by a car. The poor puppy was treated at Pet Emergency & Specialty Center of Marin for broken bones and a laceration on one leg along with two broken teeth. Once she was stabilized, she came to our Novato campus to rehabilitate.

While we could not locate her previous guardians, Karma recovered nicely from her injuries and looked forward to her walks. She had a ton of energy (she was a puppy, after all), and became very anxious in her shelter kennel. Karma went to a volunteer foster home to get some time out of the shelter, but her inappropriate play style made it hard for volunteers with other pets.

At Marin Humane, we treat the whole animal. Karma received the medical care she needed, but she also needed significant behavioral training. Volunteers took her to a Family Dog I class onsite and worked with her extensively to manage more problematic behaviors.

Meanwhile, one of our awesome volunteers started to foster Karma overnight. It didn’t take much for the two to fall in love. After growing up at Marin Humane from a puppy to an adolescent dog, Karma finally found her home this month.

“I am so excited to have Karma in my life,” shares her mom. “It really is a testament to all of the staff and volunteers that spent so much time training and loving Karma during her stay at the shelter that have made her into such an amazing dog.”

At Marin Humane, we see many large dogs like Karma who require both medical and behavioral care, which often means they need more time in our shelter before finding their new homes. Support from our donors makes it possible for Marin Humane to give each and every animal all of the care – and time – they need until they are adopted. Thank you!
