About the animal:
Chucho lives in a moderately busy condo, with another, slightly older dog (Izzy), a cat and three adult humans. He is a former street dog from Mexico whom I saw on the streets and, after a lengthy adoption process, brought home a year ago. He is social with people (he begged from tourists on the streets and loves people) and likes to play with other dogs but comes in hot. He is leash-reactive and gets nervous and very barky when he sees another dog when on leash. An animal behaviorist assessed him as leash-reactive and anxious but non-aggressive. He plays a ton with Izzy and has learned to stay away from our cat.
I am looking for a new home for him because we do not have a yard and because Chuch needs a larger dog or dogs to play with. Izzy puts up a good effort but then gets exhausted. If I had a sizable yard I would keep him, because I adore this dog. I fell in love with Chuch when I saw him and brought him home, even though I knew not having a yard might be an issue. Chuch is also a brilliant escape artist, so the yard needs to be secure. I suspect that if he’s happy with more outdoor space, lots of sniffing and digging options, and companions, he will not try to escape. He is one smart cookie and a great problem solver. I did obedience training and a bit of agility training with him, both of which he loved. As a former street dog, he is basically a working dog who needs a fair bit of stimulation. He should definitely have dog companions who can match him in energy. The ideal home for him would have a huge yard (maybe even a farm – something out in the countryside) and one or more medium/large dogs. The new human parent(s) should have experience with dogs. Chucho is definitely not a dog for a first-time dog owner. He would make a great sports dog.
