When you commit to making a recurring gift, you become a Constant Companion! You’ll receive one acknowledgement letter a year summarizing your annual giving, along with invitations to our bi-annual speakers series featuring animal welfare experts and updates on what you make possible through your generosity. What’s more, you’ll help us reduce administrative costs and enable us to budget more effectively when we can plan for your contribution. A donor advised fund (DAF) is a fast-growing charitable program that allows donors to contribute, receive an immediate tax deduction, and then recommend grants from the fund over time. If you have a DAF, you can recommend grants directly to support Marin Humane.
When you make a gift to Marin Humane through your Donor Advised Fund, we do not always receive information that identifies you as the donor. Please email us at development@marinhumane.org to let us know about your gift so we express our gratitude and make sure you receive proper acknowledgement.

Members of Marin Humane’s Legacy Society who make an annual gift of any amount qualify for our Guardians program. This exclusive benefit allows members to register their pets with Marin Humane to ensure expedited rehoming in the event a guardian is no longer able to provide for a loved animal companion.
Honoring a pet or a loved one with a tribute gift is a thoughtful way to express your condolences, or to celebrate birthdays, anniversaries, holidays, and milestones. Please visit our tribute page to learn more.

Organize and host a fundraiser to benefit the animals and people supported by Marin Humane. Some fun fundraising ideas include birthday parties (ask your guests to make a donation in lieu of gifts), car washes, lemonade stands, percentage of business sales, or business promotional nights (Pints for Paws, Yoga Night, etc.). A contribution of any size makes a difference in the lives of animals. To ensure your success, check out our third-party fundraiser guidelines to help you plan your event. Are you thinking of selling or trading in your old car? You can donate your vehicle to Marin Humane. Proceeds from your donated vehicle are tax-deductible and directly support the animals at our shelter. Our animals love donations almost as much as treats and belly rubs, but not everything that arrives at the shelter is something they can use. We’re incredibly grateful for our community’s generosity, and a quick look at the list below helps make sure your donation is a perfect match. When unusable items are left, we unfortunately have to pay to dispose of them, so a quick check means more resources go straight to the animals. 🐾
✅ Items we gladly accept:
- Towels, sheets, and fleece blankets
- Dog or cat food (must be unopened)
- Newspapers
- Egg cartons, paper towel rolls, and toilet paper rolls (for enrichment)
- Leashes, collars, and harnesses
- New or gently used small pet beds (that can be machine washed)
- New or high-quality items that could be sold in our Thrift Shop (e.g., new quilts or towels)
🚫 Items we cannot accept
- Pillows (decorative or bed pillows)
- Dog gates
- Large dog beds that cannot be washed
- Dog houses or igloos
- Cat trees
- Treat or water dispensers
- Used or dirty litter boxes
- Medications of any kind (including prescription flea/heartworm preventatives)
- Expired food or treats

Shop & Give Program
Through their Shop & Give Program, Mill Valley Market donates 2% of your total purchase to Marin Humane! All items for purchase qualify, including wine. Simply tell the checker at the beginning of your transaction that you’d like the contribution to benefit Marin Humane.
