At a recent pop-up clinic for unhoused pet guardians in San Rafael, Dr. Bennett encountered many unspayed and unneutered pets. With access to traditional veterinary care being virtually unattainable for many of these guardians, she promptly sat down with our Pet Safety Net staff to brainstorm a way to help.
So she generously hosted the Pet Safety Net’s first free spay and neuter surgery day earlier this year at her private clinic, at no cost to the shelter. The size of Marin Humane’s shelter clinic and our limited staffing prevents the shelter from being able to offer public spay-neuter surgeries, so having access to a full-size clinic and many of its staff was an invaluable resource.
With San Marin Animal Hospital typically closed on weekends, it was the perfect space, and perfect staff, to help provide surgeries for a number of our unhoused Pet Safety Net clients. Dr. Bennett explains, “It’s my friendship with my colleague, Dr. Ortiz, as well as the rest of my lovely staff that also fuels my passion. They so graciously partner with me at the clinics so we can support Marin Humane.”
On top of all her veterinary work, Dr. Bennett has also been on the Marin Humane Board of Directors since March 2024. As a board member, she provides strategic direction, fiduciary oversight, and guidance to the shelter’s leadership team. Dr. Bennett is also a member of the shelter’s Development Committee, which works with staff on building donor relationships to support the shelter’s programs.
We’re so grateful for Dr. Bennett’s tireless support of our mission to transform the lives of both animals and people!
