Happy Saturday, Volunteers!

Although this is the final day of National Volunteer Recognition Week, our appreciation of you continues every day of the year! It has been a very different experience for all of us this year to show appreciation “virtually” rather than in person. But, we put on our creative hats and hope you have enjoyed some of the emails and Facebook postings we shared.

We know the coming weeks and months will be a new and interesting time in the history of Marin Humane. This is the first time in our long history that the shelter closed, nearly every program has been paused, and our buildings are vacant. It is an eerie and enlightening silence. What we have learned is that the combined energy of volunteers and staff, working together to makes lives happy for animals and people, is what inspires our vision, mission, and core values.

We have also learned that we are a nimble and flexible community of people, standing ready to meet the ever-changing needs within Marin and beyond. Thank you for your patience and support as we go forward into this new, uncharted future.

Finally, we want to share a favorite quote of ours that reminds us of each one of you, our inspiring volunteers.

“Everybody can be great … because anybody can serve. You don’t have to have a college degree to serve. You don’t have to make your subject and verb agree to serve. You only need a heart full of grace. A soul generated by love.”

–  Martin Luther King, Jr.

Thank you for all of the ways you serve animals and people. You are our heroes!

With deep gratitude,

Anne and Candace
